Don't do it!
Well it was so so unorganized from the beginning.... we did not receive the departure information until midnight the night before which we did not see until morning and it was too late, so we went later because they said they would put us on the next boat, we had to go on a standby line and wait for space on the boat, so we did not see the Muir Woods and then we received a text whilst we were at Alcatraz that the Sausalito portion was cancelled and they did not give a reason, mind you - you had to make your 'own' way to Sausalito and back, so I am not sure what we paid $225 for, because technically all you get for your money is a ferry ride to Alcatraz and back....... We could have done that for $90. I would steer clear of this tour at all costs
Response from the operator: We cancelled this tour the night before due to lack of others attending on that day. The minimum number of guests was not met to proceed. We informed you of this cancellation the night prior. We decided instead of cancelling the entire tour we continued the Alcatraz portion and refund all but the Alcatraz portion. We refunded all but $90 which was the cost of Alcatraz. We are not sure what the complaint is. Alcatraz was sold out for weeks and you got them!

Short but worth it
Took convertible van on Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito, had lunch overlooking the water, then dropped at Pier 33 ferry for Alcatraz.
Response from the operator: What a fun filled 2 hours!!

Viator a rip off company
Over priced , rip off, you need to be an athlete, to many inclines , and mold and mildew . Took the trip to sasalito and Viator only paid one way , this was not worth $197.00
Response from the operator: Trenese: The prison cellhouse dates back to 1910. It is an old prison with history. It is also on a hill that is clear from San Francisco that it is on a mountain. There was a S.E.A.T Program tram that takes guests who need assistance to the top of the mountain. You were given round trip service to Sausalito and failed to check back in for the return when the van was departing back to San Francisco. You were told to return at our location at a certain time and failed to report back. We sent tickets to your email and even texted to your phone. You then called us saying you had no tickets and we sent pictures of them to your phone. We tried so hard to help you out! Rip Off? You actually paid for the lowest Alcatraz Combo package on Viator. It is an incredible value! We actually had two people cancel so you were very lucky to get a ticket to be honest.

Why this scores 48
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Alcatraz Sausalito Express: 2 Hours in Sausalito with Food Option: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for San Francisco.
How much does Alcatraz Sausalito Express: 2 Hours in Sausalito with Food Option cost?
+
Prices start at $15 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in San Francisco usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Alcatraz Sausalito Express: 2 Hours in Sausalito with Food Option take?
+
Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in San Francisco is not rushed.
Is Alcatraz Sausalito Express: 2 Hours in Sausalito with Food Option worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 48 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable food & drink in San Francisco, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Alcatraz Sausalito Express: 2 Hours in Sausalito with Food Option?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Alcatraz Sausalito Express: 2 Hours in Sausalito with Food Option suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Alcatraz Sausalito Express: 2 Hours in Sausalito with Food Option?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in San Francisco can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in San Francisco and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Alcatraz Sausalito Express: 2 Hours in Sausalito with Food Option start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central San Francisco within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in San Francisco?
+
San Francisco packs Alcatraz, Muir Woods, Napa and the bay into day-trip range, which makes booking order matter more than anywhere else in the US. Alcatraz sells out weeks ahead, wine-country vans fill on weekends, and the best food walks in the Mission and Chinatown cap at a dozen people. Our ranking favours small groups and guides who live in the neighbourhood they walk. On Outty we rank every San Francisco experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Small Group Yosemite and Giant Sequoias Day Trip from San Francisco, Golden Gate Bridge Muir Woods Sausalito with Optional Alcatraz, Chinatown, North Beach, Little Italy: 7 Tastings & History. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit San Francisco?
+
September and October, the city's real summer, once the fog season breaks. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in San Francisco?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
