Excellent Gobi Desert Experience with an Amazing Team 🇲🇳

We had an amazing 6-day Gobi Desert trip with our wonderful guide, Khuslen, and driver, Mori. Both were friendly, helpful and professional throughout the journey. Khuslen was knowledgeable and made the trip fun and meaningful, while Mori made sure we travelled safely and comfortably. A big thank you also to Jagaa, who coordinated our transport and communication so smoothly throughout the trip. Thank you all for taking such great care of us and making our Mongolia trip so memorable! 🇲🇳❤️

Full tour of many destinations, exciting landscapes but slow pace, much (too) free time

Tour with guide and driver that I did alone without being put in a group with other travelers. Every day an exciting journey in the Mongolian landscapes to a destination, which began in the Gobi Desert and then ended with the destinations west of Ulan Bator most frequented by tourists. The Tuul guide and the Erkha driver were exceptional and are very knowledgeable about the territory, fundamental for the type of trip chosen. As I am used to, however, I would have preferred a more “focused” tour to optimize my travel days: often in fact we left at 8.30 and then stopped for lunch at some inn on the road and arrive in the early afternoon (14:00) at the destination of the day. Then, after the visit, the day already ended in the tent camp at about 15.30, in the case of the dunes of Piccolo Gobi ended even earlier, at 14.00, with many free hours without anything organized to spend waiting for dinner (about 19.30 / 20.00). In all that time I would have preferred to make an additional journey instead of inventing something to do to cheat time. Often other travelers arrived at the tent camp much later than me, even the same travelers I met the night before in my own ger camps, and in several cases confirmed that they had made tours “richer” than me. The suggestion I would give to the organizer is to also offer a concentrated version of this beautiful tour, because although the journeys between one location and another are long, the concentrated program would be feasible, and several tourists would be much happier to see more things in one day instead of wasting time sleeping in the ger camps. The last ger camp where I spent the night in the dunes of Piccolo Gobi absolutely needs to be changed: tents with “western” beds inside, no sheets or blankets on the mattresses, broken table unusable in the tent: a very low level compared to all the other beautiful and traditional ger camps on the tour. Overall a tour that I still suggest to those who do not want to do too many hours by car and who love the afternoon nap.

Very beautiful from a landscape and cultural point of view, dress sporty as in high mountains and layers. You always sleep in a tent

7 days Central Mongolia and Great Gobi: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Ulaanbaatar.

How much does 7 days Central Mongolia and Great Gobi cost?

    +

Prices start at $1,600 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Ulaanbaatar usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does 7 days Central Mongolia and Great Gobi take?

    +

Plan for about 168 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Ulaanbaatar is not rushed.

Is 7 days Central Mongolia and Great Gobi worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 68 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Ulaanbaatar, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule 7 days Central Mongolia and Great Gobi?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is 7 days Central Mongolia and Great Gobi suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 168-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book 7 days Central Mongolia and Great Gobi?

    +

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Ulaanbaatar can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Ulaanbaatar and add a light layer if any part of the 168-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does 7 days Central Mongolia and Great Gobi start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Ulaanbaatar within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Ulaanbaatar?

    +

On Outty we rank every Ulaanbaatar experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include BEST 5* Chinggis Khaan Airport UBN Ulaanbaatar Transfer Taxi 24/7, A day trip to Terelj National Park and Statue of Chinggis Khan, Genghis Khan Statue+Terelj Park+CamelRide+Eagle. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Ulaanbaatar?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Ulaanbaatar?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
