    Great experience

How it worked: a driver picked me up in Windhoek and drove me to Swakopmund to meet the full tour that was already in progress. Shaka, the driver, was awesome - chatty and energetic, a pleasure to spend a few hours with. I wasn’t wild about being told along the way to Swakopmund that we could buy an additional tour of Sandwich Harbour - I was happy to partake, but would have liked to know this was an option before leaving so I could budget appropriately, and make a more informed decision about which tour company to use. The gentleman who took me around the dunes was dull, and more importantly, very racist. Once the Chameleon tour began in earnest, I was absolutely blown away. Chilo is an incredible guide, he is so passionate about the landscape and Namibian history. He has such a vibrant personality, is an excellent communicator, and genuinely cared that everyone had a good time! The desert and dunes were remarkable, truly breathtaking sights to behold.

Response from the operator: Hi Alissa, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are very pleased to hear that, once your Chameleon tour began, you were blown away by the journey and that Chilo made such a strong impression. He was be very happy to read your kind words. His passion for Namibia, his knowledge of the landscapes and history, and his genuine care for guests are qualities we value deeply. We are also glad to hear that you enjoyed your transfer with Shaka and found him chatty, energetic, and good company on the road to Swakopmund. That said, we are truly sorry to read that some parts of the experience did not meet expectations. You are absolutely right that optional activities such as Sandwich Harbour should be communicated clearly in advance wherever possible, so guests can budget properly and make informed choices before departure. We appreciate you raising this, and we are using your feedback to improve how optional add-on activities are explained to guests before and during the tour. Your comments regarding the dunes activity are especially concerning. We understand that this part of the experience was operated by a third party supplier, but we still take the matter seriously because any activity connected to our guests forms part of their overall travel experience. The behaviour you described does not reflect the standards, values, or guest care we uphold at Chameleon Safaris. We do not knowingly work with, nor do we wish to be associated with, suppliers whose conduct makes guests feel uncomfortable, disrespected, or unwelcome. We have followed up with the relevant supplier and reviewed how we communicate expectations with activity partners, especially around professionalism, respect, and guest experience. Thank you again for sharing both the positive parts of your trip and the concerns. We are grateful that you still got to experience the beauty of the desert and Namibia’s remarkable landscapes with Chilo, and we appreciate the opportunity to improve where the experience around the tour could have been better. Kind regards, Gavin

    personal and flexible

I was so impressed with the entire Chameleon experience. The communication beforehand, personal care and attention during, accommodations, guiding and information throughout, overall flexibility, and responsible tourism practices were outstanding. Our guide, Gideon, was fantastic, giving us insightful information, being clear on expectations and agendas, and providing an authentic and realistic view of the wonderful country of Namibia. (Special shout out for changing FOUR tyres throughout the journey - two on the side of the road - without stress.) Many tour operators around the world do not consider the impact of tourism on the communities and environment, and I feel that Chameleon does and has gone out of their way to put systems in place which work toward sustainable tourism practices. Thank you!!!

Response from the operator: Dear Stetson, What a wonderful review - thank you so much for sharing your experience with us! We're absolutely delighted that every aspect of your 4-day adventure exceeded your expectations. Gideon will be thrilled to read your kind words! His ability to provide insightful information while keeping things authentic and stress-free (even when dealing with four tire changes!) is exactly the kind of professionalism and calm expertise we value so highly. We're glad he made what could have been frustrating moments into just another part of the adventure. Your recognition of our commitment to responsible and sustainable tourism practices truly means the world to us. This is something we care deeply about, and it's heartening to know that our efforts to minimize impact on communities and the environment while maximizing authentic experiences resonates with travelers like you. Namibia is an extraordinary country, and we believe it's our responsibility to help preserve it for future generations while sharing its wonders today. Thank you for choosing Chameleon, and for taking the time to acknowledge everything from our pre-trip communication to the flexibility we try to offer throughout. We hope Namibia has left a lasting impression on you, and we'd love to welcome you back for another adventure someday! Warmest regards, Gavin

Not impressed with the tour company

I booked the 4 day tour Thurs to Sun. Before making the booking, I made sure that it was not going to be a problem returning to the airport to catch my flight out of Windhoek at 2:30 pm. When I checked into the office that morning. They told me there was an issue with getting me back in time for my flight so I would have to pay for a private transfer at 6 am Sunday morning and the cost was 5500 NAD. I was shocked that they made the error and expected me to cover that cost while pulling me out early and losing the last day's activity. but the manager told me they will cover that cost and just enjoy the tour. So day 1 begins. The driver said it was just a transfer to Swakopmund. He said that when I arrive I can join a tour to see Walvis Bay and sand board down the dunes. After I agreed to joining the tour for the next day, then he told me that i didn't need to go to Walvis Bay that day because i will see it tomorrow. He never told me I was supposed to see it with him along with a few other stops. I felt he was deceitful in selling that tour so he didn't have to do it. Then I get a message asking me if I would prefer to leave Sat afternoon at 1 pm instead of Sunday morning at 6 am. There was another person in the group leaving at that time, so I agreed to save them from having another driver for myself. They said they will put me in a hotel for Sat night. So I agreed. Day 2 started with the added tour that I paid for. Then my actual tour guide drove us to Solitaire and the camp in Sossusvlei. We went to see the canyon that evening before dinner. Day 3 was an early start to see Deadvlei. We didn't get a chance to climb Big Daddy because we were short on time to make the return trip to windhoek. I didn't get a chance to see the cheetahs, so there were a few things missed on my 4 day tour which basically became 1 and half day tour. The transfer was on a regular shuttle van. Did not get the personal driver I thought I was sharing with the other person. Not very impressed!

Response from the operator: Dear Richard, Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We truly appreciate comments from all our travellers, as they help us improve our services. I would also like to sincerely apologise for the shortcomings you experienced during your tour. We fully acknowledge that an error was made regarding the return time to Windhoek in relation to your scheduled flight. Unfortunately, we only became aware of the timing conflict once we received your flight details on the morning of departure. Nevertheless, it was our responsibility to identify and resolve this earlier, and for that I am genuinely sorry. From the moment the issue was identified, we ensured that a private transfer was made available to you at no cost, as previously communicated. This option remained available throughout, and we were happy to cover the expense entirely. You later opted for the shared transfer solution when an alternative departure time became possible, and we appreciate your flexibility in assisting us with logistics for the rest of the group. I would also like to apologise for the guiding concerns you mentioned, specifically the missed visit to Walvis Bay. This is not the standard of service or communication we expect from our team. We have addressed this matter directly, and additional training has already been implemented to ensure this does not happen again. Regarding the amended arrangements for Saturday, the intention was to provide a more comfortable option rather than a very early morning departure. However, I completely understand your disappointment that parts of the itinerary were shortened as a result, and I am sorry that you were unable to experience certain activities you were looking forward to. At Chameleon Safaris, we take full responsibility for the mistakes that occurred during your booking process. At the same time, we kindly ask all travellers joining our scheduled departures to carefully read through the full itinerary included in their booking confirmation. We also strongly encourage guests to share their flight information with us as soon as it becomes available. This allows us to arrange transfers accurately and identify any potential issues well in advance. Once again, I sincerely apologise for the inconvenience you encountered and appreciate you bringing this to our attention. Your feedback helps us improve, and we hope we may have the opportunity to offer you a far better experience in the future. Kind regards, Susan Minnaar

    Amazing Dunes and Vistas

This is an amazing adventure. The accommodations, while fairly basic, check off all of the necessary boxes. Their transportation, from the helpful airport pickups and returns, the hotel pickups and the safari van all exceeded my expectations. We booked the optional 4X4 SUV trip over the beaches and dunes of Swokopmund and it was awesome. The travel down to Sossusvlei was a bit bone jarring over the unpaved roads, but the time spent on the great dunes was worth every bump. The facilities at Desert Camp were good and the food choices at the nearby Sossusvlei Lodge were outstanding. I would highly recommend this trip, but would stress with tour leader the need to more clearly communicate details. There were a number of times that he, Gregory, left details out and created lots of confusion.

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the adventure, from the beach and dune 4x4 experience in Swakopmund to the unforgettable time at Sossusvlei. It’s great to know that the accommodations, transport arrangements, and dining experiences met or exceeded your expectations. We truly appreciate your constructive feedback regarding communication; we will review this with Gregory to ensure all details are clearly shared with future guests. Your recommendation means a lot to us, and we’re pleased that, despite some bumps along the road, your Namibian adventure was memorable and enjoyable. We hope to welcome you back for an even smoother and equally incredible experience in the future! Jordan-Rohi..

4-Day Swakopmund & Sossusvlei Accommodated Adventure from WHK: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Windhoek.

How much does 4-Day Swakopmund & Sossusvlei Accommodated Adventure from WHK cost?

    +

Prices start at $1550 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Windhoek usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does 4-Day Swakopmund & Sossusvlei Accommodated Adventure from WHK take?

    +

Plan for about 96 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Windhoek is not rushed.

Is 4-Day Swakopmund & Sossusvlei Accommodated Adventure from WHK worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 31 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Windhoek, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule 4-Day Swakopmund & Sossusvlei Accommodated Adventure from WHK?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is 4-Day Swakopmund & Sossusvlei Accommodated Adventure from WHK suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 96-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book 4-Day Swakopmund & Sossusvlei Accommodated Adventure from WHK?

    +

Around 11 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Windhoek can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Windhoek and add a light layer if any part of the 96-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does 4-Day Swakopmund & Sossusvlei Accommodated Adventure from WHK start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Windhoek within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Windhoek?

    +

On Outty we rank every Windhoek experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Windhoek City Tour, Windhoek Historical City Tour Plus Township Tour !, Half-Day Windhoek City and Township Cultural Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Windhoek?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Windhoek?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
