An Unforgettable Eight-Day Journey Through Namibia

We had an unforgettable eight-day journey through Namibia, from the red dunes of Sossusvlei and the Atlantic coast to the wildlife of Etosha National Park. A special thanks to our driver, Simon P Sheya, who accompanied us throughout the trip and helped make the whole journey smooth, enjoyable, and memorable! Day 1: We arrived at Windhoek Airport and checked into our hotel smoothly. In the evening, we went to the well-known Joe’s Beerhouse to try some local Namibian food, which felt like the perfect way to officially begin our trip. Day 2: We drove south from Windhoek to the Quiver Tree Forest near Keetmanshoop. In the late afternoon, we first visited the Giant’s Playground, an impressive landscape filled with unusual rock formations, before continuing to the Quiver Tree Forest and checking into a nearby camp. At night, the sky was filled with stars, and the Milky Way was clearly visible overhead. Day 3: We left the Quiver Tree Forest and headed toward the red dunes of Sossusvlei, staying at a hotel near the national park. In the late afternoon, we joined a sunset tour through grasslands and mountainous scenery, spotting springboks and zebras along the way. We eventually reached a hilltop, where we enjoyed a spectacular sunset over the vast Namibian landscape. Day 4: After sunrise, we entered the Sossusvlei area and climbed the towering Dune 45. The sunlight created striking contrasts across the dunes, highlighting their elegant curves and ridgelines, while endless stretches of red sand extended into the distance. We then visited Deadvlei, where the dark, ancient dead trees stood dramatically against the white clay pan and surrounding red dunes. After finishing our visit to the desert, we continued on to Walvis Bay. Around sunset, we could already see large flocks of flamingos near our hotel, providing a beautiful ending to the day. Day 5: In the morning, we took a catamaran cruise from Walvis Bay and enjoyed the fresh Atlantic breeze and coastal scenery. Playful seals climbed directly onto the boat looking for food, while white pelicans flew alongside us and came remarkably close to the passengers. In the distance, the beaches were covered with large colonies of seals. The biggest surprise of the morning was spotting a humpback whale, which surfaced briefly and revealed the smooth curve of its back. In the afternoon, we headed to Sandwich Harbour for a 4x4 dune-driving adventure. With the vast Atlantic Ocean on one side and towering sand dunes on the other, bouncing across the dunes and driving along the coastline was a truly unique experience. Day 6: We left Swakopmund and drove to Etosha National Park. After arriving, we went into the park for a short evening game drive and were lucky enough to see elephants drinking at a waterhole—a perfect preview of the safari experience to come the following day. Day 7: We spent the day on a full safari in Etosha National Park. Not long after entering the park, we heard the exciting news that a lion had been spotted nearby. When we arrived, we saw a male lion slowly walking across the grassland toward a waterhole, occasionally letting out a deep roar. Throughout the day, springbok, zebras, and many other animals appeared along the roadside. We also watched herds of elephants gathering around the waterholes and were even lucky enough to see a black rhino coming down to drink. It was easily one of the most exciting and wildlife-filled days of the entire trip. Day 8: We left Etosha and returned to Windhoek Airport, bringing our journey through Namibia to an end. In just eight days, we had travelled from red deserts and the Atlantic coast to vast African grasslands, experiencing an incredible variety of landscapes and wildlife along the way.

Outstanding 6-Day Safari Experience in Namibia

I recently completed an unforgettable Namibian Highlights with Chameleon Safaris, and it was indeed an unforgettable experience. Perfectly organized (from start to finish), timely assistance and our fantastic tour guide - Gideon. From the start Gideon’s way to keep the trivia & knowledge information about every spot we traversed along our journey was something that sticks with me and stays memorable about Namibia. Gideon’s driving was always top notch, safe, smooth (to perfectly counterbalance the African Massage experience) and the customized vehicle which made it feel comfortable and relaxed throughout the journey on long distance drives. One of the qualities that stood out the most was Gideon’s punctuality and excellent time management. Every day ran according to the planned schedule, like a clockwork and he ensured that we maximized our time at each destination without ever feeling rushed. Gideon’s sharp attention to timing helped us enjoy every activity while staying organized and stress-free. Gideon is incredibly humble and easy-going, positive and accommodating (special thanks for bringing us on-time to have one final sunset timelapse opportunity). His friendly personality, wild sense of humor and relaxed attitude created a wonderful atmosphere within the group. He was always ready with an interesting story (trivia), making even the longest travel days enjoyable. Throughout the safari, Gideon shared valuable information about Namibia's wildlife, landscapes, culture, and history. His knowledge added significant depth to the experience and helped us appreciate the country far beyond its diverse landscape. Another impressive aspect was his resourcefulness, especially when it came to lunch preparation. The meals were delicious, thoughtfully & timely organized, showing his versatility and commitment to ensuring everyone was well fed and not just the Game :D Most importantly, Gideon created an amazing and welcoming bond within the group. He brought our group together (Dinner at Swakopmund), encouraged positive interactions (suggesting us to switch seats, so that everyone gets to know each one better) and made sure everyone felt included and comfortable. His genuine care for the group's well-being fostered a strong sense of camaraderie that became one of the highlights of the trip. Overall, this Namibian Highlights package exceeded all of my expectations, credit goes to Gideon & Team Chameleon Safaris (fantastic & clean accommodations all throughout). Gideon's professionalism, safe driving, punctuality, knowledge, humility, resourcefulness, and ability to create a positive group dynamic made the experience truly special. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for an enjoyable, safe, and memorable adventure in Namibia.

Response from the operator: Warm Greetings from Chameleon Safaris, Thank you so much for this incredibly detailed and thoughtful review. We are truly delighted to hear that your 6 Day Dunes and Wildlife Accommodated Safari was such an unforgettable experience from start to finish. Your words about Gideon are deeply appreciated. He will be very happy to read this. His safe driving, excellent time management, knowledge, humour, and genuine care for guests are all qualities we value greatly, and it is wonderful to know how much they added to your journey. We especially loved reading how he helped create such a strong and positive group atmosphere, from sharing stories along the road to bringing everyone together during meals and making sure each person felt included. Those small human touches often become some of the most memorable parts of a safari. It is also fantastic to hear that you enjoyed the accommodations, the vehicle comfort, the lunches, the landscapes, wildlife, culture, history, and of course that final sunset timelapse opportunity. Thank you again for travelling with Chameleon Safaris and for recommending Gideon and our team so warmly. Feedback like this means a great deal to us, and we hope the memories of Namibia stay with you for many years to come. Kind regards, Gavin

    Amazing 6 days in Namibia!

Started by getting collected from our hotel and going through a briefing which was all very clear. At this point we headed off to Etosha National Park, quite a long drive but beautiful scenery. We arrived at the park and did a game drive that evening and all day the following day. Absolutely amazing, we saw lions, rhinos, elephants, giraffes and much more! The Taleni cabins the second evening were brilliant :) We then headed for Swakopmund and saw a famous shipwreck, went for a great meal at Tug that evening. Following this we headed for sossusvlei, the cabins there and lodge were fantastic! We saw Deadvlei, did a drive with picnic in the sand dunes. The whole experience was great, our guide and driver Gregory was absolutely fantastic, cannot recommend highly enough 👍🏻

    +

Around 50 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Windhoek and add a light layer if any part of the 144-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

    +

On Outty we rank every Windhoek experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Windhoek City Tour, Windhoek Historical City Tour Plus Township Tour !, Half-Day Windhoek City and Township Cultural Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Windhoek?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Windhoek?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
