    Getting close to nature

We experienced a wonderful trip in the Namibian desert. Camping is the ideal way to get close to Nature. It was physically more challenging but so worthwhile to see the sunrise from a dune and experience the night sky in all its brilliance.

    The best tour ever

Our trip with Chameleon Safaris Namibia was made truly exceptional by our guide, Shaka. He handled every aspect of the journey brilliantly from safe driving and outdoor cooking to setting up camp and explaining every detail along the way with great depth. When my friend suddenly fell ill, Shaka took complete charge of the situation. He handled all the coordination and hospital arrangements effortlessly, leaving my friend and me with nothing to worry about. We are deeply grateful for his steady support and professionalism. Shaka is an outstanding guide, and anyone traveling with Chameleon Safaris Namibia will be in the best possible hands.

    Incredible Trip!

The 3-day camping trip in sossusvlei with Chameleon Safaris was amazing! The group was different from what I would have thought in terms of nationality/age distribution, but it turned out perfectly and we had lots of fun together! The nature itself is the most impressive I have ever seen with the desert-dune-landscape in beautiful light. The itinerary is planned in a way to get the most out of the short time also considering the driving time in between, but still left some calm time in the afternoon where one could for example chill by the pool of the campsite. The setting with a hot meal coming from the fire in the evening, the campsite surrounded by nature and even an breakfast by the dunes one morning could come straight out of a book. Smithley was the best guide we could have asked for, very calm & nice with lots of knowledge and experience and own admiration and respect for the surroundings there. I will cherish those memories forever and would definitely recommend the trip!

Response from the operator: Warm greetings from Chameleon Safaris, Thank you so much for your beautiful review and for joining us on the 3 Day Sossusvlei Budget Camping Safari. We are delighted to hear that your trip to Sossusvlei was such an incredible experience. It is lovely to know that the group dynamic turned out so well and that you shared such fun moments together, even with different nationalities and ages. That is often one of the special parts of travelling, when strangers become great company along the way. The Namib Desert really is breathtaking, especially with the dunes glowing in the changing light. We are so pleased that the itinerary allowed you to experience so much in a short time, while still leaving space to relax at camp and enjoy the surroundings. Your description of the hot meal by the fire, the campsite in nature, and breakfast near the dunes sounds exactly like the kind of simple but unforgettable magic we hope guests take away from a camping safari. Smithley will be very happy to read your kind words. His calm nature, knowledge, experience, and deep respect for the desert make him a wonderful guide, and it is great to know that he helped make the journey so memorable for you. Thank you again for recommending Chameleon Safaris. We are so pleased these memories will stay with you, and we hope to welcome you back to Namibia again someday. Warm regards, Gavin

    Great camping safari!

I did the budget camping desert tour over 3 days and would 100% recommend it. The nature is breathtaking. Our guide, Smithley, was extremely accommodating, spoiled us with homemade food, and was helpful with every question. The activities in the desert are very well organized, and there’s also time to relax. It was no problem to split the group at times, so everyone could hike longer or shorter depending on their level. The campsite is beautifully located in nature; the sanitary facilities are clean and completely sufficient, and there’s even a pool on site for cooling off. The organization by Chameleon Tours worked excellently, including the airport shuttle, and they were also very helpful and uncomplicated when it came to additional activities or questions. The value for money is absolutely right, and the costs are justified for everything that’s included. Many thanks, Smithley!

The Namib Desert is truly breathtaking, and we are so pleased that the mix of activities, time in nature, and moments to relax worked so well for you. Smithley will be very happy to read your kind words. It is wonderful to know that he looked after you so well, answered your questions, prepared delicious homemade meals, and made sure everyone in the group could enjoy the experience at their own pace. That flexibility on the hikes is so important, especially in the desert where everyone’s comfort level can be different. 3 Day Sossusvlei Budget Camping Safari: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Windhoek.

How much does 3 Day Sossusvlei Budget Camping Safari cost?

    +

Prices start at $769 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Windhoek usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does 3 Day Sossusvlei Budget Camping Safari take?

    +

Plan for about 72 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Windhoek is not rushed.

Is 3 Day Sossusvlei Budget Camping Safari worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 77 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 82 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Windhoek, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule 3 Day Sossusvlei Budget Camping Safari?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is 3 Day Sossusvlei Budget Camping Safari suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 72-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book 3 Day Sossusvlei Budget Camping Safari?

    +

Around 29 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Windhoek can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Windhoek and add a light layer if any part of the 72-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does 3 Day Sossusvlei Budget Camping Safari start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Windhoek within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Windhoek?

    +

On Outty we rank every Windhoek experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Windhoek City Tour, Windhoek Historical City Tour Plus Township Tour !, Half-Day Windhoek City and Township Cultural Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Windhoek?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Windhoek?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
