Magical Tour of Mystery Valley
My 85yo mother and I did a private tour with Derek as our guide. I can’t recommend it highly enough! I’d opted for the private tour as it’s less stressful when navigating with a spry but older parent. But I’d recommend the extra splurge for anyone who likes to have a more personal experience and especially if you like being able to ask random questions without worrying about detracting from others’ time. We lucked out and didn’t run across anyone else during our 3.5 hours so it felt incredibly special. If on the fence book it now!!

DINEH BEKAYA MYSTERY VALLEY TOUR
The "Mystery Valley" tour is a 3.5 hour guided experience into a lesser visited back-country of Monument Valley. Hot, bumpy, dusty and worth it! You'll scramble up rocky ledges, see old cliff dwellings, and millennium old petroglyphs, all the while learning from your Navajo guide about the changing lives of the Dineh people in the Valley. Three tips, though: being a hat that'll stay on your head ... a windbreaker... and plenty of water!

Fun tour
Harry was knowledgeable and funny driving and guiding us in the 3.5 hour tour. Showed us lots of spots for great photos and shared many cultural and history titbits. We enjoyed it greatly. Also it was a chilly morning, they were very considerate to switch us to an enclosed truck.

Scenic beauty, culture and history all combined
This tour was majestic. The wide variety of vistas and the ability to get close to arches, wall dwellings and to learn about Dineh culture and traditions made it special. We saw 2000 year old pot chards laying on the ground, petroglyphs, hogans and a wide range of fascinating geology. The time flew buy. Our guide, Harry, was terrific, sharing stories and cultural insights. I would be happy to go again.

A wonderful excursion to a hidden world
On our second day at Monument Valley, we had booked a trip into Mystery Valley. We were treated to many sights unseen with a regular, unguided tour. Our guide Sariah was a treat and provided us with the history of her people while negotiating what could generously be referred to as "roads" back in to the valley. We were about five miles south of Monument Valley but it was completely different to that experience. I would definitely recommend making time to go on one of these trips. You won't be disappointed!

Why this scores 76
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
3.5-Hour Mystery Valley's 4×4 Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Monument Valley.
How much does 3.5-Hour Mystery Valley's 4×4 Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $90 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Monument Valley usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does 3.5-Hour Mystery Valley's 4×4 Tour take?
+
Plan for about 3.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Monument Valley is not rushed.
Is 3.5-Hour Mystery Valley's 4×4 Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 76 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 106 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Monument Valley, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule 3.5-Hour Mystery Valley's 4×4 Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is 3.5-Hour Mystery Valley's 4×4 Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book 3.5-Hour Mystery Valley's 4×4 Tour?
+
Around 37 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Monument Valley can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Monument Valley and add a light layer if any part of the 3.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does 3.5-Hour Mystery Valley's 4×4 Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Monument Valley within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Monument Valley?
+
Monument Valley is only fully accessible with Navajo guides: backcountry 4x4 tours into restricted areas, sunrise and sunset photo runs, horseback rides and cultural storytelling. On Outty we rank every Monument Valley experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include 3 Hour Monument Valley Tour, 2.5 Hours of Monument Valley's Backcountry 4×4 Tour, Monument Valley Group Tour - 3 Hours - Navajo Spirit Tours. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Monument Valley?
+
April to May and September to October for mild temperatures. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Monument Valley?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
