    Amazing experience!!!!

We had an absolutely incredible experience with the Extended Sunset Tour in Monument Valley. The tour lasted about three hours, and we arrived just as the first golden lights of sunset were appearing — an absolutely breathtaking and emotional moment. Our guide was Larry, who was incredibly knowledgeable, excellent at explaining everything, and truly passionate and profound in the way he shared the history, culture, and meaning of Monument Valley. Thanks to him, we were able to fully immerse ourselves in the experience and appreciate every single detail of this extraordinary place. This is absolutely not just a typical tourist tour. The Navajo Tribal Tours team genuinely wants you to understand and appreciate the true value, beauty, and cultural significance of Monument Valley. One of the highlights was reaching a special area where Larry played the flute. The sound of the flute, combined with the incredible surroundings and the natural echo, created a truly unforgettable and deeply moving experience. We enjoyed the tour immensely and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Monument Valley. It was one of the most memorable experiences of our trip. Unfortunately, we weren't able to leave Larry a tip because we didn't have any cash with us, which we really regretted — we would have been more than happy to leave him one. He truly deserved it!

    3h tour

We had an absolutely amazing experience with Monument Valley Tribal Tours. Our guide Larry was outstanding — knowledgeable, passionate, and a natural storyteller. His tales about the Navajo people and the history of Monument Valley made the entire landscape come alive in a way no guidebook ever could. The highlight was Larry playing traditional Navajo flute music during the tour — a truly magical moment in the middle of the desert with the Mittens rising behind us. The Extended Backcountry Tour was extremely well organized, lasting over 3 hours and covering areas completely inaccessible by private vehicle. We saw landmarks we never would have found on our own. Highly recommended — Ask for Larry

A magical Monument Valley experience with Travis

This tour far exceeded our expectations. Our guide, Travis, was authentic, incredibly knowledgeable, and made the entire tour feel like a truly personal experience — exactly what you hope for in a great guide. One of the absolute highlights was the magical musical moment he created for us inside the Big Hogan. It was something genuinely special. We couldn’t recommend this tour — and especially Travis as a guide — highly enough. Worth every penny!

    The Navajo guide was well...

The Navajo guide was well spoken, intelligent and an original Navajo. He knew his culture well and got deep in his roots. I was not disappointed and respect the culture more than before.

Monument Valley Extended Backcountry Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Monument Valley.

How much does Monument Valley Extended Backcountry Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $90 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Monument Valley usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Monument Valley Extended Backcountry Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 3.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Monument Valley is not rushed.

Is Monument Valley Extended Backcountry Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 87 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 878 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Monument Valley, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Monument Valley Extended Backcountry Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Monument Valley Extended Backcountry Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Monument Valley Extended Backcountry Tour?

    +

Around 307 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Monument Valley can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Monument Valley and add a light layer if any part of the 3.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Monument Valley Extended Backcountry Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Monument Valley within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Monument Valley?

    +

Monument Valley is only fully accessible with Navajo guides: backcountry 4x4 tours into restricted areas, sunrise and sunset photo runs, horseback rides and cultural storytelling. On Outty we rank every Monument Valley experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include 3 Hour Monument Valley Tour, 2.5 Hours of Monument Valley's Backcountry 4×4 Tour, Monument Valley Group Tour - 3 Hours - Navajo Spirit Tours. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Monument Valley?

    +

April to May and September to October for mild temperatures. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Monument Valley?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
