Explore and learn Temple of Preah Vihear, located near Thailand's border, is dedicated to Shiva and stands on the edge of a plateau that dominates the Cambodian plain. The Temple, which dates from the first half of the 11th century AD, is made up of a collection of sanctuaries connected by a system of sidewalks and staircases along an 800-metre long axis. Nonetheless, its convoluted history may be traced back to the ninth century, when the hermitage was established. This site is exceptionally well preserved, owing to its distant position.

The location was once the Khmer Empire's capital, but it is now distant and densely wooded. The main building, Koh Ker Temple, is a stepped seven-tiered pyramid. Rahal Baray, a big rectangular tank, supplied water to the compound. The Prasat Krahom, or "red temple," is notable for its sandstone sculptures, whereas Prasat Pram is covered in strangler figs.

The front rectangle surrounds a moat, which has two smaller enclosures on its island. This ensemble is Prasat Thom in a narrow sense.
