Dishonest, aggressive, and completely unprofessional
I am a Japanese woman travelling alone. I am not a competitor, and I have no connection to any safari business in Sri Lanka. I am writing this because I want the next person to know what happened. Booked a private full-day safari with Menaka himself. Confirmed by WhatsApp the day before — 4:30 AM pickup, LKR 35,000 (+ entrance fee) I chose him because of the reviews and the Travellers' Choice award. I trusted that. At 4:30 a different man arrived. He said he was Menaka's brother. I called Menaka: he had taken another booking for the same day and said he would join us "in 2 or 3 hours." I said that was unacceptable and asked him to swap at 6:00, when the gate opens. He agreed. He did not come at 6:00. He did not come until 9:00. But he said I promised. For those first three hours the brother drove extremely fast, overtook every jeep on the road, stopped almost nowhere, and could not handle the vehicle when it rolled backwards — another driver had to help him. He simply chased other jeeps to the obvious spots. When Menaka finally took over he said "I'm sorry" once, then argued. His explanation: the other group had booked at 10 PM the night before, so he could not call me at that hour. I had booked first. He put a later, larger booking ahead of me and saw nothing wrong with it. He then proposed that if I saw a leopard I should pay 35,000 plus another 35,000. I said I wanted to stop the safari and go back. I said it several times. He got into the jeep closed the door and started driving again. We did see four leopards. So did almost other jeep there — everyone converges on the same sightings. He drove hard the whole day, forcing past the queue on narrow tracks, and other drivers shouted at him. We settled at LKR 30,000. At the end he asked for 2,000 more. When I tried to explain why not, he walked back to his vehicle and left. This was the pattern all day. Nothing could be resolved by talking. He would not listen, he would break off the conversation, and then simply carry on doing whatever he felt like doing at that moment. The next day he messaged me as if nothing had happened. I blocked him. I was in that jeep from 4:30 in the morning until 6 at night. At the end of fourteen hours I was standing there arguing money we had already agreed I would not pay. That is how the day ended. I came a long way to see Yala and I left not wanting to come back. That has nothing to do with the leopards. He does work hard to find animals; I will say that. But if you book him, you may not get him. And if something goes wrong, he will not listen to you. He is a rough man, and I would not recommend him to anyone.

Menaka, the Yala’s Boss
It was a fantastic experience and Menaka, our guide, was sensational! He was super punctual picking us up, incredibly honest, and professional. On top of that, he managed to spot a leopard for us, which was by no means a given. He’s an excellent driver and basically the boss of Yala, he knows all the best routes and keeps everyone else in line, haha 1000% recommended!

Why this scores 87
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Yala National Park Safari Tours: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Yala National Park.
How much does Yala National Park Safari Tours cost?
+
Prices start at $15 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Yala National Park usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Yala National Park Safari Tours take?
+
Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Yala National Park is not rushed.
Is Yala National Park Safari Tours worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 87 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 90 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Yala National Park, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Yala National Park Safari Tours?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Yala National Park Safari Tours suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Yala National Park Safari Tours?
+
Around 31 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Yala National Park can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Yala National Park and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Yala National Park Safari Tours start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Yala National Park within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Yala National Park?
+
On Outty we rank every Yala National Park experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Full day Safari - Yala National Park - 04.30 am to 06.00 pm with - Janaka safari, Special leopard & Elephants safari - Yala - 04.30 am to 11.30 am, Full day / Half Day WildlifeAdventure in Yala-National-Park. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Yala National Park?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Yala National Park?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
