Great whale shark snorkelling experience
The transfer both ways was very long and a little uncomfortable, but, the trip itself out on the boat was excellent. The whale shark experience was fantastic and exceeded expectations. Our guide (Naya?) was great as were the other guys on the boat. Only thing I would recommend is increase the price a little and include the video or photos as additional the price of the video was quite expensive.

It was incredible!
It was INCREDIBLE! The guides were fantastic, the whale sharks were amazing, the company was 10/10! It was strange how many tour boats and tourists would surround the sharks. We would go 2 at a time per group but there were probably 5 boats around 1 shark. Still an incredible experience. The one thing I dislike is that they took some incredible photos and videos but charged $80 USD after the fact if we wanted them to send them to us. Kind of steep for footage that already exists.

Best Whale Shark Tour Experience!!!
Guillermo was an amazing guide and incredibly kind throughout the entire tour! The pickup van arrived right on time, and Guillermo explained everything about the tour clearly and patiently. What I appreciated most was his help during the whale shark swim. I’m not a very strong swimmer, so I was moving a little slowly and had trouble getting a good look at the whale sharks during my first turn. On my second turn, Guillermo personally guided me in the water and helped me get into the right position. Thanks to him, I was able to see a whale shark right in front of me! It was truly an unforgettable and breathtaking experience. If I come back again in the future, I would definitely choose Guillermo as my guide again if possible! Thank you so much for making this experience so special!

Trip with Moe
The activity was fantastic. Everything from the transport to the guides was great. Moe was my main guide for the tour and he was great explaining everything about the Whale Sharks and safety. Moe was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We all felt safe and well directed in the water and around the whale sharks . We saw Whale Sharks and after our swim which was amazing with whale sharks swimming around everywhere the captain made the most incredible fish ceviche, best I've ever tasted! To top it off we got some incredible photos and videos (you have to pay extra for those but no pressure if you don't want them). I highly recommend this trip.. Overall Incredible experience..!!

Whale shark experience
Absolutely amazing experience, struggled to find the sharks after the first dive but our sailor was fantastic and able to locate another few for us to dive with. Very ethically minded. Huge shout out to Josh for the fantastic day trip.

Why this scores 79
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Whale Sharks Small-Group Tour in Cancun and Riviera Maya: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tulum.
How much does Whale Sharks Small-Group Tour in Cancun and Riviera Maya cost?
+
Prices start at $160 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tulum usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Whale Sharks Small-Group Tour in Cancun and Riviera Maya take?
+
Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tulum is not rushed.
Is Whale Sharks Small-Group Tour in Cancun and Riviera Maya worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 79 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 1,005 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Tulum, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Whale Sharks Small-Group Tour in Cancun and Riviera Maya?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Whale Sharks Small-Group Tour in Cancun and Riviera Maya suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Whale Sharks Small-Group Tour in Cancun and Riviera Maya?
+
Around 352 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tulum can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tulum and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Whale Sharks Small-Group Tour in Cancun and Riviera Maya start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tulum within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Tulum?
+
On Outty we rank every Tulum experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tulum Ruins, Turtles in Akumal and Cenote tour, Tulum Guided Tour, Magical Cenote, Lagoon Snorkeling and Beachside Lunch, Chichén Itzá, Cenote and Valladolid with Lunch and transportation. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Tulum?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Tulum?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
