    We couldn’t stop laughing

My husband and I had a wonderful time! We wanted to do something a little different and fun. The scavenger hunt was fun but not overly difficult. It caused us to step out of our comfort zones and tap into our creativity. Kat and Paul were amazing- both encouraging and helpful. We definitely would recommend for anyone looking for something a little different and entertaining.

    Fun in Wilmington

My scavenger hunting buddy and I were visiting Wilmington and as the crazy scavenger person I am we had to give this one a go! I always look for companies I’ve been able to hunt with before if I can’t find a new one and Alley Kat never seems to fail me. We got to see plenty of cultural landmarks and some realy cool stores I wouldn’t have found without their help. You do get a text guide that will message you as you need help and they were on point throughout our journey! I can not wait for the next one!

Not what we were looking for

We had hoped to find a scavenger hunt which would provide us with clues leading us to historic and or culturally significant places in Wilmington. Instead we were given a list of ten places to visit (supposedly organized geographically). Only one of the places was culturally significant. Most were simply stores which might appeal to tourists. This list included directions to perform some sort of creative act when we got there and then send a picture/video of it to the organizer. The goal is to earn points by completing these tasks. Bonus points were awarded for creativity or for taking on extra challenges. In theory you and your team competes against others, but we seemed to be the only team. The company provides live communication via text during the two hour "scavenger" hunt. Our contact person was certainly upbeat and encouraging, but this didn't make up for the weaknesses of this activity. We paid $18 each expecting something much more organized and engaging. It felt as if the organizers had never been to the town, and had just pulled the list of places to visit off an Instagram list of cute stores and eateries in Wilmington. The participants, and not the organizers are responsible for most of the creativity involved. Although we were offered the opportunity to experience another of the Alley Kat Adventures activities in a different city, after sharing our concerns, I'm not sure it will be any better than this.

Response from the operator: It sounds like you unfortunately didn’t complete all of the hunt or read all of the directions, which allow for plenty of creative freedom, choice and a variety of cultural, historical, and art clues and other hidden gems known only by locals, who contributed significantly to the compilation of this ever evolving hunt! That’s ok! Your next hunt is on us! We want you to experience what you were expecting! Just stick with it and you’re right! Bringing your creativity will only maximize your enjoyment! Also if you have trouble solving a clue just ask us and we are glad to help!

Wacky Wilmington Scavenger Hunt: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Wilmington.

How much does Wacky Wilmington Scavenger Hunt cost?

    +

Prices start at $20 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Wilmington usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Wacky Wilmington Scavenger Hunt take?

    +

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Wilmington is not rushed.

Is Wacky Wilmington Scavenger Hunt worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.4/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Wilmington, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Wacky Wilmington Scavenger Hunt?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Wacky Wilmington Scavenger Hunt suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Wacky Wilmington Scavenger Hunt?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Wilmington can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Wilmington and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Wacky Wilmington Scavenger Hunt start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Wilmington within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Wilmington?

    +

Wilmington runs riverfront history and ghost walks, Battleship North Carolina visits, film-location tours, and boat trips out to Wrightsville Beach and Masonboro Island. On Outty we rank every Wilmington experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include History and Architecture Walking Tour, THE Wilmington History, Haunts & Breweries E-Bike Tour (4 hr), Sailing Charters in Wilmington. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Wilmington?

    +

April to June and September to October. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Wilmington?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
