Saddle Road
Saddle Road, Hawaii, is considered among the most spectacular roads in the world. This is 55-mile drive of a chance of a lifetime experience. Hawaii’s Route 200 goes through all four of her climates – tropical forests, arid desert, lush grasslands and misty mountaintop fog. Between miles 19 and 23, you’ll see a few places with lava flows and young vegetation and trees. Near the road you can see where lava thickened and left the telltale mounds of a slowing flow. Just after mile 23, you’ll come close to a popular local landmark, Pu`u Huluhulu, which is an older Mauna Kea cinder cone, or kīpuka, and it’s surrounded by younger lava flows. At this point, you’re near the peak height for Saddle Road, about 1.25 miles in elevation – 6,632 feet. From here, you’ll continue through the volcanic aftermath of hundreds of thousands of years of lava activity as you head toward Belt Road, where you’ll eventually descend into Kona or Waikoloa.

David….he was AWESOME!...
David….he was AWESOME! Very knowledgeable about the Island and its rich culture. Because of the impending Hurricane the day of our trip, he did the tour in reverse so we could get as much time at Volcanoes National Park before they shut down. He led the tour with humor, patience and so much knowledge! It was a trip that I, and my kids, won’t forget! Thank you David!

David lives in Naalehu, where the storm hit hardest, and is now unable to drive out of his home as both sides of his access road have been washed out! This is a trying time for David and Hawaii Geo Tours. The belt road you drove on has also been washed out so our southern tour route has been changed as well. Grant stole the show
We had an amazing time. Grant was a wealth of knowledge and quite funny too! We loved the blacks sands beach, seeing the volcano and the lava tubes but Grant made it all go by quickly!

Dave is a fantastic tour guide. 10/10 experience. He really made an effort to show us the best spots on the island and explain the geography of it. We appreciated how passionate he is and the way he goes above and beyond.

Informational Tour
Nice tour, learned a lot about volcanoes and island history. Tour guide and van was nice and comfortable/friendly. Would have appreciated more time within the park, at each stop. Also, would have appreciated stopping by the visitor center.
Response from the operator: Thank you for your review. We're sorry you didn't feel you didn't have enough time at each stop. We do spend more time in the National Park than any other company but we can entertain doing less stops giving more time for the few! Unfortunately the Parks Visitor Center is under construction and cannot be visited at this time. There is a temporary welcome center but it is essentially a gift shop. Since we have lunch at the Volcano House overlooking the Caldera, we assume the gift shops inside are sufficiently better. For the future, please know you can always ask the guide to take a stop at spots like the welcome center!

Best Way To End Your Vacation
David was a wealth of knowledge and had a great sense of humor. He kept the tour interesting, playing trivia with the group during longer periods of drive time. Gave enough time at each location and was always welcoming questions. Great for any group (except maybe small children). Highly recommend.
