    Custom tour of the island.

Our driver, Morgan, was great. On time, courteous, knowledgeable. Tailored the day to our needs. The vehicle was clean and stocked with water. Delivered us to the airport at the end, right on time.

    We had a great trip...

We had a great trip learning all about big island and the Hawaiian culture. The bakery was a hit as well as all the other stops along the way. We didn’t get to see and real volcano action aside from smoke but it still a thrill to see.

Great trip to VNP and more.....

Weather caused us to reschedule our planned day trip to VNP. Derrick was incredibly easy and accommodating to work with as we rescheduled. The trip was fantastic, Derrick allowed us to choose the options we liked from the many available and he proved to be a friendly, gratuitous, and well informed tour leader. I would recommend this company to anyone who wants a great experience from the quality of the conversion van to the beauty of the island. Truly a great trip.

    All inclusive experience!

We had a great day with this tour. We were able to see a lot of the island in just one day. It was even recommended we take a pit stop at the zoo when the kiddo needed a break from all the touring, which was also great (and free!)

Best tour Guide in Kona, and reasonable price!

We used Derick for two tours while in Kona. We arrived by cruise ship and had 2 days in Kona. His prices were very reasonable. For our first day we booked Ohana Private Car when we booked a private 5 hours tour of Kona with Viator for 8 people. Derick had great communication with us, arrived right on time and texted his location. His 8 passenger van is brand new and very comfortable. There is an automatic side step on the van for those that need assistance when getting in and out of the van. A/C worked well in the van and was wonderful for those of us sitting in the back. He was very knowledgeable about the area and took us to some great locations to for beautiful scenery and took great photos of us as well. He didn't have a microphone yet, but could speak loud enough for us to hear at the back. We went to Lekeleke Burial Grounds, Painted Church, Kona Coffee Farm and showed up the equipment and explained the process and stopped at a outdoor market where we had lunch and shopped a bit. Our second tour we booked directly with Derick. We Booked the Volcano Private Excursion, 9 hours. This time our group was 7 people. We saw more of the area and stopped at Punalu'u Bake Shop - absolutely delicious treats and great gift store. We stopped at Whittington Beach Park, Punalu'u Black Sand Beach, saw Hawaiin Green Turtles, and went to the top of a volcano for viewing. We went through a Lava Tube which was really cool. We stopped at Lave Rock Cafe for a quick lunch and were on our way. Over the 9 hours we covered alot of different views and it was nice to see a good chuck of the island. Absolutely book with Derick at Ohana Private Car. He had a cooler of cold water for us in the van.

Volcano Tour from Kona: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Big Island of Hawaii.

How much does Volcano Tour from Kona cost?

    +

Prices start at $1499 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Big Island of Hawaii usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Volcano Tour from Kona take?

    +

Plan for about 9 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Big Island of Hawaii is not rushed.

Is Volcano Tour from Kona worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 54 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Big Island of Hawaii, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Volcano Tour from Kona?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Volcano Tour from Kona suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 9-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Volcano Tour from Kona?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Big Island of Hawaii can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Big Island of Hawaii and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Volcano Tour from Kona start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Big Island of Hawaii within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Big Island of Hawaii?

    +

The Big Island is volcano country: Hawaii Volcanoes National Park tours, Mauna Kea summit stargazing, night manta ray snorkels off Kona, Waipio Valley lookouts and coffee farm visits. Summit tours have real altitude rules, so we weight safety detail. On Outty we rank every Big Island of Hawaii experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include KONA Manta Ray Night Snorkel - FREE re-ride if no Sightings, Big Island in a Day: Volcanoes Waterfalls Sightseeing and History, Big Island: Captain Cook Snorkel On A Power Catamaran With Lunch. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Big Island of Hawaii?

    +

April to October, though the island runs year round. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Big Island of Hawaii?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
