Don’t be fooled!
This was a horrible experience! I was told from friends to use Viator and I am very disappointed. I booked a tour to see the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel on April 6th, 2026. I payed $ 232.00 for the tour and never had the tour I was called that day telling me it was cancelled because the Vatican was closed for Easter Monday and I would receive a full refund which I never received. They will not take my calls as this was for a past booking. If they read this they should do the right thing and give the refund, if not, lesson learned people do not use this group! There answer to this will be there testament to how this company does business… waiting a response…

Scam, Scam, Scam!!! DO NOT book!!
SCAM! Do no book. This is a bait and switch scam operation. Not VIP, NOT skip the line. We arrived early to the area to do some sightseeing around Vatican City area. When arriving, we headed to the location given to pick up our tickets. When arriving to grab our tickets as instructed, we were given a different start time by the local team that was an hour before our scheduled start. We were told to arrive at 4:15 when tour purchased was 5:30. There was nothing "VIP" about the experience, we had to wait in line for about an hour even thought the description of this tour was skip the notorious lines. The description of my purchased tour was "Avoid the famously long lines at the Vatican Museums on this 2.5-hour, skip-the-line tour." The tour coordinators were defensive, argumentative, and told us that we were obviously incorrect on what we purchased. After waiting in line, the tour coordinator bought our tickets on site and passed us off to a guide. She was fine, but the tour lasted only slightly longer than an hour when advertised as 2.5 hour tour through the museum. She dumped us off at the Sistine Chapel and did not follow us in there to continue the tour. The tour was given to about 20 individuals, with each party purchasing through various sites - all bait and switched with a skip the line advertisement. Absolutely ridiculous and a horrible experience. Do not purchase this experience and I will not be purchasing through Viator in the future.

Don’t Book Here If You’re Looking for Last-Minute Vatican Tours or Tickets
Stay away from booking a Vatican tour here! Especially if you’re looking to find last minute tickets. We were completely gouged on the price (paid almost 10x what the price is at the Vatican itself) and then they ended up not having a tour guide available for us that would have gotten us through the museums and Sistine Chapel before it closed. We ended up doing a self-guided tour. Thankfully, one of the tour operators at least paid the €16 for the self-guided listening device. On top of that it was disorganized. It was like one of the operators didn’t even know where to go or how to get in. She handed us off to another tour guide from their organization. Just a bad and very expensive experience over all.

Great attraction. Guide was a distraction.
Vatican Museum & Sistine Chapel were incredible. Guide ditched us part way through. Which was okay - she was so so.

Not what we paid for, very disappointed
Worst experience ever!! We paid over $170 a piece for a VIP tour skip the line tour. The normal entry ticket is 20 Euro. We were supposed to leave at 5:30 pm. When we arrived at 5:15 pm as directed, part of the tour already left. Rushed to catch up and then stood in line for over 45 minutes outside in 93 degree heat, before waiting inside another 15 minutes. The tour was to be approximately 2 1/2 hours long and it ended up being less than 90minutes and we literally jogged through the museum. We barely entered the Sistine Chapel when we were told it is closing and we have to leave. We are in our sixties and my husband is in remission from Cancer,so he spent the entire next day in bed. Not at all what we paid for. I hope you will be issuing USA refund or credit or this experience will be shared on the internet. We have been using you for many years and never have had a worse experience. Very disappointed customer, Maris Lehman

Why this scores 38
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel VIP Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.
How much does Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel VIP Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $99 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel VIP Tour take?
+
Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.
Is Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel VIP Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 38 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (2.8/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel VIP Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel VIP Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel VIP Tour?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel VIP Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Rome?
+
Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*, Pasta Making & Wine Tasting with Dinner in Frascati from Rome, Rome: Pizza & Tiramisu or Gelato Class with Flowing Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Rome?
+
April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Rome?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
