Fantastic landscape and authentic native Upper Mustang lifestyle

In April 2024 we travelled first-time to the Himalayas and chose Upper Mustang for the well-preserved lifestyle and landscape. Also, elevation rarely exceeded 4000m. High peaks can be seen from the trek all the time, although in a distance. The trek is mainly through sandy and rocky terrain and easy to walk once we adopted the walking distances and techniques compared to our normal sea-level hikes. Great cultural experience in the monasteries, temples and villages on the way. Accommodation in simple teahouses with one central room with fireplace was part of the journey. Special thanks to the greatly inspiring and caretaking Everest Trekking Routes team - Rabin as agent , Karna as guide and Madan as support. We are looking forward to the next travel to the Himalayas and will nhappily return to Rabin, Karna and Madan.

Response from the operator: thank you so much falk. this is an excellent review for me and my team. hope to see you again have a wonderful time thank you gain.

Amazing experience

Traveling to the Mustang is moving to a different world, outside the space and time to which we are accustomed. Amazing landscapes, very little crowded and quite dusty. The organization of the trek was perfect and very friendly

Response from the operator: thank you for such a wonderful review.

Different trekking and, at the moment, not very crowded

A very interesting trek. It is not high mountain but the Iowa, the landscapes and the heritage are unique. Both the agency, the guide and the porter have been helpful, kind and patient. We contacted the agency from Spain and when we arrived in Kathmandu there were no problems. Quite the opposite. They adapted to our requests.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your excellent feedback, Josep. Hope to see you again.

A different and unique trekking

The Upper Mustang trek is spectacular: not very crowded, superb landscapes and heritage. It has been well organized. Both the guide and the poter have been kind and helpful, but also discreet. We have enjoyed a lot.

Response from the operator: thank you so much for your excellent reviews.

Upper Mustang Trekking: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kathmandu.

How much does Upper Mustang Trekking cost?

+

Prices start at $2400 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kathmandu usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Upper Mustang Trekking take?

+

Plan for about 432 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kathmandu is not rushed.

Is Upper Mustang Trekking worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable nightlife in Kathmandu, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Upper Mustang Trekking?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 144 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Upper Mustang Trekking suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 20. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 432-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Upper Mustang Trekking?

+

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kathmandu can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kathmandu and add a light layer if any part of the 432-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Upper Mustang Trekking start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kathmandu within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Kathmandu?

+

On Outty we rank every Kathmandu experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Private Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour | UNESCO World Heritage sites, Manaslu Circuit Trek, Classic Everest Base Camp Trek. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Kathmandu?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Kathmandu?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
