About this experience
Completely isolated from modern development, the Tsum valley was only opened for tourism activity by the Nepal government as recent at 2007. Tsum valley lies in Gorkha district and comprises two remote villages called Chumchet and Chhekampar. The name ‘Tsum’ came from the Tibetan word called ‘Tsombo’, which means vivid. Traditionally Tsum valley was a very distinct place geographically and culturally therefore was called ‘Tsum Tso Chuksums’, which means thirteen provinces ruled as a single territory. The trail heads up the valley of the Budi Gandaki River through wild and unexplored country inhabited mainly by members of the Gurung ethnic groups. It also has a long history of Buddhism. The Buddhist saint Milarepa is believed to have meditated in the caves amongst these mountains.

Tsum valley Nepal - A unique culture and nature experience
Fantastic and unique cultural and nature experience. The hike goes through some of Nepal’s most remote valleys, which can only be reached on foot and which few years ago did not have to be visited by tourists. Tibetan culture and religion are still embodied and practiced in everyday life here. As you climb the hills of the Himalayan snowy pinnacles, you will meet several ancient gompa (monastery complexes) such as My Gompa, long rows of bedmills and individual stupa. We were so lucky to attend the annual Buddhist festival at the temple in Chhule. The people were very welcoming and friendly. We were given a fresh, tasty, simple, vegetarian diet every day. We stayed in simple Homestays and Teahouses.
Response from the operator: Namaste !! Thank you very much for your wonderful review. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the unique cultural and natural beauty of the Tsum Valley trek.

Amazing Experience 😄
I had an epic time trekking the Tsum Valley with mates, thanks to this top-notch Nepal travel agency! Their guides were legends—super knowledgeable and friendly, making the journey a breeze. Everything was perfectly organised, from permits to cozy lodges. The views were unreal, and the cultural experiences were a highlight. As an Aussie, I’d give these guys a massive thumbs-up for an unforgettable adventure! Highly recommend!

Beautiful remote valley full of traditional monasteries
We had the most amazing time trekking through Tsum Valley! As soon as you leave the busier Mandalay trail, everything becomes quieter, greener, and more peaceful. We loved visiting the remote valley and saw many traditional Buddhist monasteries. My favourite was visiting Gumba Lungdang monastery, it was so peaceful and so remote, surrounded by high snowy peaks. The route was clear and beautiful, I would love to go here again.

The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Tsum Valley Trekking: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kathmandu.
How much does Tsum Valley Trekking cost?
+
Prices start at $1700 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kathmandu usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Tsum Valley Trekking take?
+
Plan for about 360 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kathmandu is not rushed.
Is Tsum Valley Trekking worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Kathmandu, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Tsum Valley Trekking?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 144 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Tsum Valley Trekking suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 18. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 360-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Tsum Valley Trekking?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kathmandu can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kathmandu and add a light layer if any part of the 360-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Tsum Valley Trekking start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kathmandu within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Kathmandu?
+
On Outty we rank every Kathmandu experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Private Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour | UNESCO World Heritage sites, Manaslu Circuit Trek, Classic Everest Base Camp Trek. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Kathmandu?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Kathmandu?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
