    Professionalism and attention

I made the Reservation of the tour earlier with Diana, which served me very well. We also made the castle on the same day. Claudiu was our driver/Guide and was an adventure and so much. Trasfaragasan is a must.

Talk to your tour guides ahead of time!

Unfortunately the company that we booked through had gone out of business and Viator was unaware. The tour did not happen for us and it was too late after waiting to see if they would arrive and talking with Viator to get another trip anywhere outside of Bucharest that day. It was the only day we had available for a long day excursion so we were not able to leave Bucharest. I would recommend the tour but contact the vendor that is hosting your tour ahead to confirm that they have your reservation and that you speak to them prior to your arrival. We were very disappointed to not get to go. We were refunded but lost out on an amazing experience. Additionally, many hotels offer tours to Transfagarasan Road and these can be arranged through your hotel for around the same prices listed here. I have used Viator in several countries and never had a problem before but this has been a very dissapponting experience this time.

Dangerous driver put our lives at risk!

Driver was driving very dangerous, at times doing 100mph. He swerved in and out of lanes, overtook on bends and without a doubt put our lives in danger. He broke numerous traffic rules including playing with his phone on Facebook, texting and looking through photos numerous times. He even took both hands off the steering wheel and had to swerve to prevent crashing. He may be an experienced driver but his luck will run out. Make sure you’re not with him when this happens! He was also unprofessional as he spoke for the entire trip about his personal problems and sex life! Bearing in mind we are 4 woman travelling together, we felt this was very inappropriate. Much as we felt sorry for him, this was our holiday and we ended up providing therapy sessions and being concerned about his welfare far more than enjoying the tour. The Transfagarason Highway is well worth a visit but not with this tour company.

Scenic drive on an Autumn day!

Whether you are looking to learn a little about Romania or get some great photos for your Instagram (or both, in my case!) - this tour is a great pick. Too many photos to upload! What a great day tour to get out of our hotel in Bucharest and see some sights. Our tour guide (Aiden) was awesome and very informative about all things related to Romania. I was so excited to see several bears on the road amongst the fall-foliage! Also was able to stop at a neat monastery along the way and see how people in smaller towns live compared to Bucharest. I found this tour with a guide to be worth it since we were able to relax and power-nap in the backseat after a long day. Renting a car would have been entirely too much hassle. Save yourself the time and exhaustion and go with Aiden, instead. You’ll be in good hands, have someone to take you and your friend’s/family photos and feel like you made a new friend!

Transfagarasan Highway - Private day trip from Bucharest: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Bucharest.

How much does Transfagarasan Highway - Private day trip from Bucharest cost?

    +

Prices start at $85 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Bucharest usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Transfagarasan Highway - Private day trip from Bucharest take?

    +

Plan for about 12 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Bucharest is not rushed.

Is Transfagarasan Highway - Private day trip from Bucharest worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.9/5 across 7 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Bucharest, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Transfagarasan Highway - Private day trip from Bucharest?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Transfagarasan Highway - Private day trip from Bucharest suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 12-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Transfagarasan Highway - Private day trip from Bucharest?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Bucharest can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Bucharest and add a light layer if any part of the 12-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Transfagarasan Highway - Private day trip from Bucharest start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Bucharest within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Bucharest?

    +

On Outty we rank every Bucharest experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Real tour of Communism, Bucharest Highlights Walking Tour, Top Gear Road, Small-group max 7 pax with Pick-up, Transfăgărăşan. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Bucharest?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Bucharest?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
