About this experience
Meet North of Croatia on this private day-trip from Zagreb. Discover a historic core of Varaždin, a showcase of scrupulously restored baroque architecture and well-tended gardens and parks. Admire Trakošćan castle, with its well-presented museum and attractive grounds. The castle features three floors of exhibits that display the family’s original furniture, a plethora of portraits, an armament's collection of swords, and a period kitchen in the basement. The rooms range in style from neo-Renaissance to Gothic and baroque. It was restored in the neo-Gothic style in the mid-19th century; the 215-acre castle grounds were landscaped into a romantic English-style park with exotic trees and an artificial lake. This is a private tour and it is tailored to You.

Great Tour With a Great Guide
Aleksander is an incredible guide. He is personable and very knowledgeable. We visited Trakoscan Castle and Varazdin after visiting Kumrovec (Tito's birthplace) so we got an extra stop on our trip. He also took us to an excellent restaurant in Varazdin called Bedem for lunch and gave us many recommendations on what to do in Zagreb. He had a very nice, clean Mercedes minivan for the day tour. Everything was perfect. I highly recommend him and will go through him for more tours next time I am in Zagreb.
Response from the operator: Jeff, First of all, thank You for writing an excellent review. It was a pleasure meeting You and I really enjoyed our conversation. I am really happy to hear that You enjoyed our tour and liked our Mercedes V-class minivan. Till next time! Enjoy Croatia, Best regards, Aleksandar

Excellent Tour
This was a private tour for 2 couples. Alex, our guide, picked us up at our hotel promptly at 9:00, and we headed to Varazdin, the former capital of Croatia. We started out at the castle, and then continued strolling the very charming town. From there, we drove to Trakoscan, a fairy-tale castle in very picturesque surroundings. Alex was a very pleasant guide, and he was a wealth of information regarding the places we visited, as well as Croatian history. I highly recommend this tour for people who would like to spend the day in the countryside. For lovers of castles, this tour is perfect.
Response from the operator: Dear Laurie, Big thanks for deciding to book with us and even bigger thanks for sharing Your experience of a trip with us here with others on TripAdvisor. We are really glad to hear that You’ve enjoyed. Best regards, LB team

Why this scores 53
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Trakošćan Castle & Varaždin - Private tour from Zagreb: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Zagreb.
How much does Trakošćan Castle & Varaždin - Private tour from Zagreb cost?
+
Prices start at $355 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Zagreb usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Trakošćan Castle & Varaždin - Private tour from Zagreb take?
+
Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Zagreb is not rushed.
Is Trakošćan Castle & Varaždin - Private tour from Zagreb worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 53 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable family friendly in Zagreb, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Trakošćan Castle & Varaždin - Private tour from Zagreb?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Trakošćan Castle & Varaždin - Private tour from Zagreb suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Trakošćan Castle & Varaždin - Private tour from Zagreb?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Zagreb can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Zagreb and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Trakošćan Castle & Varaždin - Private tour from Zagreb start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Zagreb within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Zagreb?
+
On Outty we rank every Zagreb experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Communism & Croatian Homeland War Tour, Zagreb Highlights: Old Town, WWII tunnels, Funicular & Tastings, Old Zagreb Private Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Zagreb?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Zagreb?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
