Small group is misleading but still a good day out.
The tour is advertised as a small group, but we ended up being a group of 30 (split up in 3 vans). With a group that size, you end up waiting around a lot. It took us almost an hour after arriving at the Tulum ruins to actually get inside, whilst waiting for tickets, bag check, 30 people going to the bathroom... Tine spent at Tulum ruins felt very short and you get no time to walk around yourselves once the guide (group split into Eng/Spanish speakers) is done. In the itinerary was no mention of going to the beach afterwards. We skipped this and would have liked to explore the site more, but the guide had our tickets and we could get back in. Then you wait ages for everyone to return to the vans. Lunch was next which was super tasty in a low key cute roadside spot on the way to Coba. Before getting to Coba you stop at a Shaman house, this also wasn't on the itinerary and more waiting as done if the 30 people took a long time to shop. Finally you get to Coba ruins where half of our group (the English speaking part) was forced to hire a bike or a rickshaw to cycle around the site. This was good fun, but also wasn't mentioned in the itinerary. The site is super interesting, lovely ruins in the jungle, we even saw a monkey in a tree. On to the Cenote which was amazing. Big massive pool in a cave, super clear water, really stunning.
