About this experience
A full-day tour from Civitavecchia to discover two unique places that will literally leave you speechless. Civita di Bagnoregio, also known as the dying city, an suspended village on foot, is truly spectacular: a long pedestrian bridge leads to what seems like a fairy-tale town. A completely isolated place where time seems to have stopped while the landscape continues to transform, a victim of the constant erosion of the clayey soil caused by weather phenomena. This is why it’s called the dying city as it is destined to slowly and inexorably crumble away. From Civita you will then head to Bomarzo to visit the Sacred Wood. Designed by Prince Vicino Orsini and architect Ligorio starting in the mid-16th century, the park is a unique masterpiece from the Renaissance era and the oldest sculpture park in the modern world. Here where statues that defy proportions and perspective rules are creatively placed, animating the park’s corners and creating a surreal interplay between nature and art.

Civita di Bagnoregio
Civita di Bagnoregio is located in Tuscia on the border between Tuscany and Lazio. Discover and Visit the dying city. It is called the dying city because the land on which it stands is slowly falling away and will inevitably disappear when the final pieces crumble into the spectacular Valle dei Calanchi below. Knowing this and knowing that nothing can be done to prevent it makes your visit all the more special, eternal and timeless. Be one of the last people to visit the village before it ceases to exist. Connected to the rest of the world by a three hundred meter bridge, Civita di Bagnoregio is a charming village which will make you feel you are visiting a world that no longer exists. Made up of old houses, narrow streets and surrounded by beautiful landscapes, walk through this magnificently unique setting. The Romanesque Arch at the entrance to Civita was built by the Etruscans 2,500 years ago and all that remains of the Renaissance Palace is the facade, the rest collapsed into the canyon. Visit the largest Piazza: the site of donkey races on the first Sunday of June and the second Sunday of September. In the evening, the piazza is the place to be, as what’s left of the town socialises there. Visit Maria’s Garden, follow the main road to the far side of town to see a lovely garden with canyon views. After that transfer to Bomarzo

Unique and wonderful
This excursion was quite unique and just This excursion was just what I was looking for. Having travelled to Italy on and off since 1968, I wanted something unique and this was perfect. We went to a dying city and a sculpture garden designed by Count Orsini, several centuries ago, to amuse his guests. It was a phenomenal day with an expert guide, Michael, who spoke exceptional English. He even took us past a medieval town capuslating what one expects from a trip to Italy. If you are looking for something off the beaten track, check with MyloveItaly through Viator.

Beautiful with ancient charm
Beautiful trip, very suggestive landscape, perhaps a little expensive bridge crossing, € 5.00 per person with the many people passing I find it a high cost to maintain maintenance, but it is worth the price because the view is the same City is beautiful. One of the visits that if I pass by the area I would definitely do again

Why this scores 60
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
The spectacular dying city Civita di Bagnoregio&the Monster Park: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Lake Bracciano.
How much does The spectacular dying city Civita di Bagnoregio&the Monster Park cost?
+
Prices start at $337 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Lake Bracciano usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does The spectacular dying city Civita di Bagnoregio&the Monster Park take?
+
Plan for about 8.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Lake Bracciano is not rushed.
Is The spectacular dying city Civita di Bagnoregio&the Monster Park worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 7 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Lake Bracciano, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule The spectacular dying city Civita di Bagnoregio&the Monster Park?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is The spectacular dying city Civita di Bagnoregio&the Monster Park suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book The spectacular dying city Civita di Bagnoregio&the Monster Park?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Lake Bracciano can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Lake Bracciano and add a light layer if any part of the 8.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does The spectacular dying city Civita di Bagnoregio&the Monster Park start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Lake Bracciano within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Lake Bracciano?
+
On Outty we rank every Lake Bracciano experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Civitavecchia Shore Excursion: Best of Rome Private Tour, Food Tasty and History Tour in Civitavecchia, VIP Tour of Rome (3/5/8hrs) Colosseum & Vatican Museums. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Lake Bracciano?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Lake Bracciano?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
