    About this experience

The Ghost Tour is Williamsburg's first and only murder-focused tour. Explore areas that other history tours would be afraid to visit. Explore a historic city that conceals a sinister and unsettling past. A netherworld of horrific death and hatred. Accompany your guide on foot to some of our favorite local watering establishments. To help you get ready for what's to come, try a drink with a murder theme or one of the pub's specialty beverages. Then, take a stroll through the dim, peaceful streets of Historic Williamsburg, where you may learn the real stories of the city's most notorious crimes. There's nothing ghostly about Williamsburg's scariest tour. It has to do with murder.

    Schemers and tricksters through history

Be ready for some fun and laughter. Stories were entertaining and our guide was great. At our last pub stop we sat with four other tour guests. We continued to trade stories and legends from our home towns. Enjoying each other’s company and laughter was in abundance. So enjoy the tour and get to know the people you meet along the way.

Response from the operator: We are so pleased you enjoyed your evening! Thanks for reviewing your experience!

    Extended standing required

Lots of walking with no benches or seating at the stops. Extended periods of standing - 30 plus minutes each stop. He had some good stories but they were very convoluted and ran together quite a bit. We had trouble remembering more than a few the next day. Seemed like a genuinely nice guy. We enjoyed the two stops in addition to the first place. The 3 drinks were full sized and included, which was nice. The pub meeting place was really busy on a Friday evening at 7, but we found him waiting outside the front door.

Response from the operator: Thank you for reaching out about your experience on the Murder Tour:Pub Crawl. We genuinely value your feedback and want to address your concerns. While we strive to create an engaging and enjoyable atmosphere, it seems there may have been some misunderstanding regarding the structure of our tour. We take pride in offering a unique experience, and this particular tour is designed to provide a blend of bar hopping and social interaction. Although our guests do spend some time standing as we move between locations, we ensure that there are ample opportunities to sit and relax at each bar, where you can enjoy drinks and conversation with fellow participants. We also wanted to point out that you as well as every other participant on the tour were sent clear meeting instructions prior tour time. We’re sorry that you didn’t utilize this message to ask questions regarding the Tour route, or any other concerns that you may have had prior to tour time as it could’ve been easily explained. Thank you again for your feedback and thanks for touring with us.

    Enjoyable and Interesting

We had a great time on our murder tour. Our guide, Randy, was very knowledgeable and is a wonderful storyteller. He had the whole crowd involved in the stories and made the tour very enjoyable and interesting. The pubs we visited were fun and the drinks were very good. We highly recommend!

Response from the operator: Thanks for taking the time to leave such a great review! We love that you had such a great night with Randy!

The Murder Tour and Pub Crawl: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Williamsburg.

How much does The Murder Tour and Pub Crawl cost?

    +

Prices start at $48 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Williamsburg usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does The Murder Tour and Pub Crawl take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Williamsburg is not rushed.

Is The Murder Tour and Pub Crawl worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 57 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 28 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Williamsburg, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule The Murder Tour and Pub Crawl?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is The Murder Tour and Pub Crawl suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book The Murder Tour and Pub Crawl?

    +

Around 10 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Williamsburg can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Williamsburg and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does The Murder Tour and Pub Crawl start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Williamsburg within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Williamsburg?

    +

Williamsburg centres on Colonial Williamsburg passes, Jamestown and Yorktown history tours, lantern-lit ghost walks and theme park tickets a few minutes away. On Outty we rank every Williamsburg experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Full Day Historic Guided Tour to Jamestown and Yorktown with Lunch, Magic Happens at The Wagsters Magic Theatre, Williamsburg Ghosts, Witches and Pirates Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Williamsburg?

    +

April to June and September to October. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Williamsburg?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
