About this experience
In just an hour’s driving distance from Ulaanbaatar there lies the Terelj NP, the most easily accessible part of the nearly 2mln hectare Khan Khenty strictly protected area. Terelj, meaning rhododendron is just a tiny but nevertheless a spectacular part of it, a fantastic venue for hiking and horseback riding. Proximity to the capital makes it a popular destination for single day tours. You will find yourself in a wide mountain bowl dotted with rock formations of weird shapes, quite often named after things they resemble. Upon arrival we hike in the park, visit a charming Buddhist temple on a cliff top and optionally take a short horseback riding tour. Lunch will be served in a local holiday resort with some fantastic rock formations as the backdrop. Return to Ulaanbaatar in late afternoon.

Chinggis Khaan International Festival
On the way to Terelj National Park, we visit to a gigantic mounted statue of Genghis Khan. The Great Khan is depicted in his probably fifties looking in the direction of his birth place and resting his right hand on a golden whip he found here as legend suggests. Optionally, we visit inside the complex to an observation deck and a small museum. The observation deck on the horse head allows panoramic views of vast steppe and rolling hills. The museum exhibits everyday utensils, belt buckles, knives and sacred animal statues of Bronze Age and Hunnu period as well as archaeological findings of the later Mongol Empire era.

Gorkhi Terelj National Park
Terelj National Park is the most easily accessible part of the nearly 2 Million hectare Khan Khenty strictly protected area is located.
