Great day at Cockatoo Island
Great way to explore Cockatoo Island. My teenage son really enjoyed the day.
Response from the operator: Thank you for the fantastic review! I am so glad to hear that you and your son had a great day exploring Cockatoo Island. Finding activities that teenagers truly enjoy while traveling can sometimes be a challenge, so it is incredibly rewarding to know that our convict adventure game hit the mark and made the exploration fun and engaging for him! Not worth the effort.
We came to Sydney on a family history adventure. Knowing we had family attached to the history of the island. We were excited to find out more about our family heritage. Booked the family in & had a terrible experience. Didn’t end up doing the quest. Could not log into the app once we were on the island. No-one I invited through the app could log into it either unless they payed extra for the app. Asked around but no-one on the island had any idea about the quest/adventure. The lady working at the information centre there was nice to begin with but once we mentioned the quest her tone changed. She was not interested in talking to us & didn’t have any info about the quest. Told us to “just walk around & look”. The island itself was great to explore despite not being able to do the quest. The ferry ride there & back was nice though. In my opinion I would not recommend it. Felt like we were being played & cheated out of our money. Didn’t end up finding any info out about our family history there. Totally dissatisfied & not very happy at all.
Response from the operator: I am genuinely sorry that your family history adventure on Cockatoo Island was derailed and that you weren't able to play the game. It sounds incredibly frustrating, especially when you were so excited to learn about your heritage. I want to gently clarify a couple of things to help explain what happened. First, our games are completely independent and self-guided, which is why the island staff at the information center are not affiliated with us and couldn't assist you. Second, regarding the invite feature, your family members absolutely shouldn't have been prompted to pay extra. To invite others, you just need to follow the instructions in the app, use the "quest invite" feature, and then have the invitees log in using their own email addresses to join the game. For any login or technical issues like the ones you experienced, we actually offer 24/7 customer support directly in the app to help troubleshoot right on the spot. I'm so sorry we missed the chance to get you up and running! We never want anyone to feel cheated out of their money. Please email us at explore@questoapp.com with your booking details so we can investigate what went wrong with your invite links and offer you a free quest to make this right.

It was great learning info and playing the game. We had issues with the game giving out wrong directions a few times, sending us left instead of right or right instead of straight ahead. Some of the information and land marks were out of date due to upgrades to the island. The wharf was closed to the public so we couldn't answer 2 or 3 questions. It counted our correct answers up wrong at the end of it all. Told us we got 6 out of 15 right but we only got the wharf questions given to us. We actually got 13 correct. Even with the glitches we had a great time. Loved it. Highly recommend if you aren't a perfectionist and can deal with wrong info at times.
Response from the operator: Thanks so much for playing our Cockatoo Island Convict Escape! We’re thrilled you had a great time, even with a few glitches along the way. The island has changed recently, so we’re updating directions, landmarks, and fixing the scoring issue you flagged. Really appreciate your feedback—and we’re so glad you’d still recommend the game!

Why this scores 56
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Sydney Cockatoo Island Escape: Convict Adventure Game: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Sydney.
How much does Sydney Cockatoo Island Escape: Convict Adventure Game cost?
+
Prices start at $7 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Sydney usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Sydney Cockatoo Island Escape: Convict Adventure Game take?
+
Plan for about 1.3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Sydney is not rushed.
Is Sydney Cockatoo Island Escape: Convict Adventure Game worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 56 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.3/5 across 3 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Sydney, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Sydney Cockatoo Island Escape: Convict Adventure Game?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Sydney Cockatoo Island Escape: Convict Adventure Game suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Sydney Cockatoo Island Escape: Convict Adventure Game?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Sydney can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Sydney and add a light layer if any part of the 1.3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Sydney Cockatoo Island Escape: Convict Adventure Game start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Sydney within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Sydney?
+
On Outty we rank every Sydney experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include WILD Wombat and Kangaroo Day Tour, All Inclusive, Depart Syd: Blue Mountains Best All Inclusive with Local Guide, Blue Mountain Small Group Tour All Inclusive. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Sydney?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Sydney?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
