    Highly Recommend

Highly recommended! This was my second time in Istanbul, and second tour with Ali and his team - I will always contact them whenever I am in Istanbul. This man is one of the most well-connected and well-informed tour guides in the city; you can tell by the way the locals talk to him when they see him around. His tours pack a lot of information, and depending on how many hours you give for the tour, at the beginning of the tour he will help you prioritize what all to see and how much time to spend in each area. As a big foodie, his recommendations for places to try during/after his tours are always 10/10. One of the places he recommended was so good I went back three days in a row! And honestly the best part is how personable and relatable Ali is - he shared his personal life experiences and gave great life advice as well! Ali and his team are my forever family.

Response from the operator: Hello Ajun, Thank you so much for your kind words and continued trust! It was truly a pleasure to see you again in Istanbul and spend time together once more. I’m very happy you enjoyed the tour, the food recommendations, and the overall experience. Looking forward to welcoming you back again in the future — your Istanbul family will always be here for you! Ali

A wonderful personal tour of the Old City of Isranbul

Ali is a wonderful tour guide for Istanbul. He knows the sights really well and gives you a great visit to all of the major cultural sights. He also can give you very good tips for shopping for things such as carpets and ceramics.

Response from the operator: Thank you for your kind words! It was a pleasure guiding you through Istanbul's cultural highlights. I'm glad you enjoyed the major sights and found the shopping tips helpful. If you ever return, I'd be happy to show you even more hidden gems or assist with your shopping needs, especially when it comes to authentic carpets and ceramics. Safe travels!

Not a guide, but a friend.

We feel like we made a new friend. Ali was kind, friendly, accommodating, and very knowledgable. We ended up spending more time with him than we budgeted, but only because he knew there was more that we were interested in seeing. The trip to his favorite baklava place, alone, was worth it. Everyone seemed to know him, and we felt completely safe and cared for in his company.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your heartwarming review! It was truly a pleasure spending extra time with you, and I’m glad we could explore even more of the city together. I’m thrilled you enjoyed the stop at my favorite baklava spot—it's always a treat to share! Making my guests feel comfortable, safe, and cared for is something I take pride in, and I’m so happy you felt that way. I feel like I’ve made new friends as well, and I hope our paths cross again in the future!

    Great 6 hour private tour

Ali is a wonderful tour guide. Our family of 2 Adults and 3 teenagers spent 6 hours with him and loved the experience. He is knowledgeable, engaging and professional. He not only provided great insights to the history of the place, he made it personal with stories of the people who built and lived there. He also provided great tips and advice for other activities we should consider trying while in town. Would definitely use him again for future tours.

Response from the operator: Thank you for booking again and such a nice review!..It was a pleasure to meet you and your wonderful family again ..

    Ali’s is aces!

Best walking tour we have ever had. If you are in Istanbul and want to see the sights at your own pace with a total history you have to book with Ali. We contacted Ali prior to our visit, all very easy and straightforward, outlined what we wanted to see and do no problem. He even offered advise on other booking we wanted to make. On the day he arrived promptly at our hotel to start our private tour. Confirmed the plan for the day discussing best ways to move around the city. Everything was done at a pace of our choosing. We opted to walk to the old city along the way Ali was able to provide details of the city it’s landmarks and their history and how things have changed over time. At the spice bazaar advised of what to get and what to avoid, prices that we should expect to pay. Wonderful detailed history at the Hagia Sophia, Blue mosque and Topkapi palace. Really bringing the places to life! He took us to an excellent authentic Turkish restaurant, delicious food very reasonably priced. Over lunch we discussed life in Istanbul other areas and restaurants worth exploring. Ali was truly fantastic, we honestly felt like it was a day out discovering new things with an old friend.

Response from the operator: Dear Kamran and Samia.. Thank you for your nice review..and thank you again for booking. Wish you two best.

Sultanahmet Old City Tour - Private: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Istanbul.

How much does Sultanahmet Old City Tour - Private cost?

    +

Prices start at $40 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Istanbul usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Sultanahmet Old City Tour - Private take?

    +

Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Istanbul is not rushed.

Is Sultanahmet Old City Tour - Private worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 68 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Istanbul, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Sultanahmet Old City Tour - Private?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Sultanahmet Old City Tour - Private suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Sultanahmet Old City Tour - Private?

    +

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Istanbul can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Istanbul and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Sultanahmet Old City Tour - Private start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Istanbul within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Istanbul?

    +

On Outty we rank every Istanbul experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Best of Istanbul 1, 2 or 3-Day Private Guided Istanbul Tour, Istanbul Luxury Bosphorus Yacht Cruise with Asian Side Stop, ISTANBUL BEST: Iconic Landmarks Full Day PRIVATE Guided City Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Istanbul?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Istanbul?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
