The drive from Sarajevo to Srebrenica is approximately 2 and a half hours. We will visit Srebrenica Memorial Center and the city of Srebrenica. Srebrenica genocide was the massacre which happened in July 1995 in which more than 8000 Bosniaks, mostly men, but women and children as well, who lived in and around Srebrenica, were killed. The International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia declared that the massacre in Srebrenica was a genocide. Potočari, a small place near Srebrenica, was declared a safe zone by the Dutch UN units. However, Bosnian Serb units overran the protection zone and went on to massacre over 8000 Bosniaks. There is video footage from that period, played in the Memorial Center, which shows executions. The victims were buried in mass graves, and to this day, many victims are still not identified nor found. Memorial was officially opened by the former US President Bill Clinton in September 2003. That same year in March, the first 600 victims were identified.

A tour for the mind, tour for the soul

Absolutely vital and thought provoking. I was initially dismayed by the long drive (3 hours each way) but I have to give my immense thanks to Adnan Hasanbegovic, our guide on the van, for helping us understand the wider context of Bosnias rich and complex history. I would highly encourage having someone with deep historical understanding guiding you on the drive. Someone like Adnan. So that you can appreciate and, to be honest, contemplate and grieve for the human condition.

    Must visit museum in Sarajevo

A must visit museum when you visit Sarajevo and you want to learn about the recent history. Some of the picures and TV-images though are quite confronting.

Response from the operator: Thank you for your feedback. We're glad you found the museum valuable for understanding Sarajevo's recent history. We understand that the images can be confronting, but they are an important part of sharing the true story of the city. We appreciate your thoughtful perspective.

Intense reminder of the genocide atrocities

Being able to see and walk through the factory where over 25000 sought refuge made a huge impact on me. the footage and photographs were hard to watch but so important to remember. I would advise everyone to visit who want to understand and make sense of the atrocities that happened in Srebrenica.

Response from the operator: Thank you for time to write this review Judith. I am happy to hear that you liked the tour.

    Highly recommend!

The Srebrenica day tour was very easy to organise with Kamer. Our tour guide Vekas was fantastic - he was very professional, informative and ensured the tour was tailored to us. We had adequate time to learn about the history, view the museum and cemetery. We greatly enjoyed the journey with beautiful scenery and learning about the history. I would highly recommend this experience with Torus Tours.

Response from the operator: We are happy to hear that you enjoyed on your trip with our guide Vekas.
