    Terrible experience

Terrible scary experience Whats happening to Viator with these terrible tour companies, aren't they doing audits on the way the conduct business. Never go on this tour please. On the way to Sigirya the tour operator send me a message saying that it wasn't possible to go up the rock fortress because of a wasp attack. We went to another rock in front of Sigirya where we could see people going up Sigirya. Obviously they did this because they saved the entrance fees to Sigirya which was US45 each. I paid US 540 which should cover everything. After they offer me a side safari tour for US180 which I accepted on the condition that we have time for the dambulla caves. I asked if they had many animals and the tour guide assured me that yes. So we went on the safari and after 45 minutes we see 2 elephants and one more five minutes after. It was boring to be there so we asked the safari driver to exit and take us to the tour car to go to dambulla caves cause it was late. I told the tour guide why he said a lot of animals and we only saw three elephants and he proceeded to say it was cause it was late in the afternoon and animals are resting. We got to dambulla at 7 pm and it was closed so we also missed it. The car we went was a little mini minivan really uncomfortable for a 15 hour day. The driver was texting and talking on the phone dangerously. How could they do these to visitors. I am going to ask for my money back for these rip-off. We lost a lot of time because on the way over they took us to a herb garden where they get commission and the guide told us we would get free massage but at the end they charged us 10.000 rupees for them. The driver guide kept harassing me after the tour through WhatsApp asking for money sending pictures of my family and threatening messages which he later deleted. The lunch supposedly was included in a restaurant but they took us to a crappy village place. Terrible

Response from the operator: Dear Sir, Please be fair enough and not to potrait like every mistakes are from our side by the way we apologize for the things happened and you should also know that there is no mistakes from our side, Before a month of your tour date we sent you an itinerary including sigiriya and dambulla with some additional stops. As a tour operator our job is to show you all the new places and give the experience for you but we never forced you we sent and said that if you like any of these you can choose or else can skip it but you agreed for everything as covering these in a day is a plus for you rather than spending two times for the tours. For your clarification, there are good side and also bad side in Spice Garden as many tourists knows and we really dont know what happens inside if they force you then you could have let us know but you purchased stuffs for you and your family while your card was not working to satisfy you we paid and said you to pay us once your back in colombo we usually help our customers like this because we know they are here to enjoy and we shouldn't break them. We ensure regarding our customers safety so that we get updates on each places visiting before reaching and thus we got a news of wasp attack in Sigiriya so to make you safety we already said you we will refund your entrance fees money and then took you for Piudrangala Rock to see a breath taking view of Sigiriya Rock yet you saw people upstairs who got stuck and you thought they are climbing up but you never asked us and also the Safari you agreed also you should know that we can't bring animals infront of you as its a wildlife safari so it is luck by chance to spot animals even though you spotted few animals you are not in a mind to pay for that too we did paid for the wildlife and jeep cost after you said and agreed to pay everything once back in Colombo We already explained you that if you go on Safari you will miss Dambulla Cave Temple and you agreed but you wanted to visit both which is impossible with the timing and yet you blame us for everything seems unfair Once back to colombo you stayed quite until we reach the hotel and then you started yelling at us to skip the money which you owe us after taking all the experience in one day we really felt dissapointing as we have never met a customer who enjoy everything without paying a single penny also please note we have mentioned the lunch will be in a local traditional restaurant and the restaurant we took is a Village Restaurant which we give our customersa truly village local experience and everyone have loved it but you are the first person who didn't even like that we really feel bad and sorry for eveything We have also refunded your tour payment and also we got nothing for the experience you took so its a huge loss for us We feel very bad for this review where you have to put the blame on us and make our company reputation worst but we are hoping you get pay first for every tour using with other companies where they should also face this circumstance Best Regards

Sigiriya Rock and Dambulla Cave Temple Day Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Colombo.

How much does Sigiriya Rock and Dambulla Cave Temple Day Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $60 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Colombo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Sigiriya Rock and Dambulla Cave Temple Day Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Colombo is not rushed.

Is Sigiriya Rock and Dambulla Cave Temple Day Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 20 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Colombo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Sigiriya Rock and Dambulla Cave Temple Day Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Sigiriya Rock and Dambulla Cave Temple Day Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 10-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Sigiriya Rock and Dambulla Cave Temple Day Tour?

    +

Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Colombo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Colombo and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Sigiriya Rock and Dambulla Cave Temple Day Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Colombo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Colombo?

    +

On Outty we rank every Colombo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Flexi dates on all 5 to 7 days packages for car and English speaking driver, Sri Lanka Personal Tour Driver in private vehicle, 08 Nights in Magical Sri Lanka. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Colombo?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Colombo?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
