Last minute cancellation left us stranded

I booked this shuttle operator two days in advance for transportation from Monteverde to Tamarindo. My reservation was scheduled for 8:00 AM, but I received a cancellation email at 7:45 AM—just 15 minutes before my scheduled pickup. What made the experience even more frustrating was that I never received any follow-up email, phone call, or text message from the company explaining the cancellation or offering an alternative. I was left scrambling at the last minute to find transportation, which is especially stressful when traveling in a foreign country. Last-minute cancellations can happen, but providing only 15 minutes’ notice with no communication or assistance is unacceptable. I cannot recommend this company based on my experience.

    They did not show up

They did not show up, did not notify, and did not answer the phone. I was stranded in Monteverde because the other shuttles had already left, and I had to pay for another shuttle for the next day and another night in a hotel. They still have not shown any signs of life.

Paid in full – service never existed

I booked JORGE’s TAXI through Bookaway. The trip was confirmed and I was charged immediately. Before the pickup, I tried to contact Jorge’s Taxi via their WhatsApp number to confirm everything — I received no reply. A local friend eventually managed to reach them by phone and was told they were already fully booked and could not honor the reservation. This means the service I paid for was never available in the first place, and no one informed me. They made no effort to help, no apology, and took no responsibility. The lack of professionalism and communication was honestly insulting. I had to arrange last-minute alternative transport at additional cost. Thankfully, Varela Shuttle stepped in and provided a reliable and excellent service, otherwise I would have been completely stranded. Despite multiple emails to Bookaway, I still have not received a refund. Paying in full for a confirmed service that does not exist, with no support and no timely refund, is completely unacceptable. I strongly advise future travelers to avoid Jorge’s Taxi — their service and communication are extremely unreliable.

Jorge himself picked us up on time in Monteverde and dropped us off in Tamarindo. Hotel to hotel service is wonderful.

A great way to travel to see the countryside without worrying about your your rental car breaking down! Plus, insurance is ridiculous when you rent one!

    Simple and easy transfer

Jorges shuttle service was great! My previous shuttle had been cancelled but I contacted Jorge the day before and was quickly and easily able to organise my trip. The bus is clean and well air conditioned, and Jorge let me know when there was a slight delay so I wasn’t left wondering where he was. Would recommend.

Shared Transportation from Monteverde to Tamarindo or Liberia: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puntarenas.

How much does Shared Transportation from Monteverde to Tamarindo or Liberia cost?

    +

Prices start at $35 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puntarenas usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Shared Transportation from Monteverde to Tamarindo or Liberia take?

    +

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puntarenas is not rushed.

Is Shared Transportation from Monteverde to Tamarindo or Liberia worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 53 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.2/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puntarenas, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Shared Transportation from Monteverde to Tamarindo or Liberia?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Shared Transportation from Monteverde to Tamarindo or Liberia suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Shared Transportation from Monteverde to Tamarindo or Liberia?

    +

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puntarenas can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puntarenas and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Shared Transportation from Monteverde to Tamarindo or Liberia start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puntarenas within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Puntarenas?

    +

On Outty we rank every Puntarenas experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tortuga Island Tour with Costa Cat, 3 Hour ATV Medium Waterfall Tour (Swimmable Pool), Turtle Island, from Puntarenas, snorkeling and lunch included!. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Puntarenas?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Puntarenas?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.

What is included in Shared Transportation from Monteverde to Tamarindo or Liberia?

    +

Included: On-board WiFi; Bottled water; and In-vehicle air conditioning. Always check the voucher for the final list before you travel.

Does Shared Transportation from Monteverde to Tamarindo or Liberia include hotel pickup?

    +

Yes, pickup is offered for every traveler from 18 listed pickup locations in and around Puntarenas. Be ready about 15 minutes before the start time. You can also enter a custom pickup address when booking.

Will I get instant confirmation and a mobile ticket for Shared Transportation from Monteverde to Tamarindo or Liberia?

    +
