What you get

    About this experience

This walking tour led by Captain Bryan is not your average "sit there and shut up" tour where the guide won't even remember you. Rather, after brief introduction, Captain Bryan will lead you on a historic journey of how Shem Creek came to prominence with its famous shrimping fleet and much more. Unlike any other tour in the area, guests have a chance to see the industry at work. The first half of the tour will contain history of the area and discuss events back to the early 1700's, the second half of the tour will specifically cover the Shrimp Industry. This is not a tour, it is an experience to immerse yourself in the Shem Culture. Take back history, culture, language, but most of all guests will take from this experience an underlying appreciation for our local shrimpers and the history behind these hard working men and women.

    Great tour guide and experience

Captain Bryan was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, passionate and engaging. His love for the area, its history and the shrimping industry runs deep and shows through on the whole tour. Even my 12yo loved the tour and that doesn't always happen. Highly recommend.

    Captain Bryan is AWESOME!

Captain Bryan was amazing! To be so young, he is so knowledgeable about his hometown’s history and shrimping industry. My adult daughter and I happened to be the only ones on the tour. Since it was so hot, Bryan offered to chauffeur us around to the stops. It was awesome! The air conditioned ride was greatly appreciated. Bryan was so personable and made the tour fun and engaging. I highly recommend this tour!!

    Inspirational Passion

Such an AMAZING experience!!!! There is one thing in life that truly inspires me and that is when I am blessed to experience someone else’s PASSION. It does not matter whatever job it is, when someone has unbridled passion for something and they graciously pour their hearts out on a stage or kindly and simply share it with others, it is inspirational!!! That is who Captain Brian is. It’s not really about ranking Brian as a tour guide it’s simply about telling you that he one of those PASSIONATE souls that has the ability to share that knowledge and experience with others. Our group was so very impressed with our tour of Shem Creek and how personable Brian was by involving us all with his enthusiasm, knowledge, and wittiness. Captain Brian, you are a true inspiration to your passion and we THANK YOU SO MUCH for living that passion and sharing it with us!!!! Much Love, Uncle Phil (not really your uncle)

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Mount Pleasant.

How much does Scenes of Shem Creek History and Shrimp Walking Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $29 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Mount Pleasant usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Scenes of Shem Creek History and Shrimp Walking Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Mount Pleasant is not rushed.

Is Scenes of Shem Creek History and Shrimp Walking Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 86 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 190 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most highly reviewed in Mount Pleasant, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Scenes of Shem Creek History and Shrimp Walking Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Scenes of Shem Creek History and Shrimp Walking Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Scenes of Shem Creek History and Shrimp Walking Tour?

    +

Around 67 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Mount Pleasant can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Mount Pleasant and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Scenes of Shem Creek History and Shrimp Walking Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Mount Pleasant within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

On Outty we rank every Mount Pleasant experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Kayak With Dolphins in Historic Shem Creek, Boone Hall Plantation All-Access Admission Ticket, Charleston Water Taxi Cruise with Dolphin Sighting. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Mount Pleasant?

    +

Spring and fall bring the best weather and lighter crowds in Mount Pleasant, while summer has the widest choice of tours and evening activities. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Mount Pleasant?

    +

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
