Vallarta Roots is the best in the business!
TL;DR: if you want the best tour guide in all of Mexico, call PePe/Vallarta Roots. Amazing experience and we highly, highly recommend Now if you’re like me and spend time reading long reviews, here’s the play-by-play of our time spent with Pepe: Let me start by saying that Pepe runs one of the most personable and professional operations I’ve ever seen. Pepe is born and raised in Puerto Vallarta and speaks both Spanish and English fluently. What started off as a simple request for airport dropoff & pickup, turned into us spending multiple days with Pepe and seeing everything from Sayulita to the Horcones River. My wife and I love to explore local culture when we travel but Pepe was also able to keep the attention of 9 & 7 year olds who would’ve been perfectly content sitting by the pool each day. On our way to Sayulita, Pepe took us to a local cacao/chocolate farm so we could see the process of making chocolate. And of course, we got to try the local product! Once we got to Sayulita, we were able to try a local restaurant (El Itacate), visit the beach, and walk around town to shop from the local vendors. My wife and I had been to Sayulita before so the highlight of this stop was our kids getting their hair braided on the beach! Between our Sayulita and Puerto Vallarta tours, we were supposed to go on a swim with the dolphins excursion. We ended up cancelling it two days before and Pepe took care of everything for us. Our next tour took us from Nuevo Vallarta through many different neighborhoods of Puerto Vallarta where Pepe explained the history of the city and let us get out and take photos from all the hidden gem lookout points! After the PV history tour, we continued south along one of the most beautiful coast lines I’ve ever seen. Pepe found a number of stops/lookout points for us to get out of the van and take family photos. One of the stops even had a giant Iguana that our kids were able to hold for photos. For the Puerto Vallarta excursion, we told Pepe that we wanted to try something local for lunch. He took us all the way up the Horcones River Canyon to a Mexican seafood restaurant (Marpago, I believe) with an outdoor deck and beautiful waterfall view. On the way back to Nuevo Vallarta, Pepe had lined up a tequila tasting at a local craft tequila maker in the jungle. My wife and I sampled many tequilas and brought bottles home for ourselves and gifts. To keep the kids occupied, Pepe found a zip line facility in the jungle next to the tequila maker and they were able to enjoy that before heading back to our hotel. Last but certainly not least, Pepe told us that he was thinking about adding a cooking class to his tour options. Next thing we knew, we were invited to try fresh carne asada & al pastor tacos and amazing homemade salsa & guacmoles all made by Pepe, his mom, and his wife. We look forward to when this becomes part of the offering! We had such an amazing time with Pepe and Vallarta Roots, I feel comfortable calling Pepe a friend now! If you’re ever in the Puerto Vallarta are or looking for somewhere to go, make sure you reach out to Pepe!

Great Personalized Tour
Despite my husband’s physical challenges, we wanted to see the sites around Puerto Vallarta. Pepe was early for pickup and met us right in the cruise port. Pepe is a fourth generation Puerto Vallartan and very knowledgeable. We drove to Saylulita…a very charming fishing village turned into a surfers’ destination. As warned, cobblestones and uneven sidewalks slowed us down but Pepe was wonderful on parking as close to things as possible and assisting my husband. Lunch at Don Pedros’s on the waterfront was fantastic. Shade and a breeze felt so good. Guacamole and chips as a starter and grilled mahi sandwiches on homemade bread was sooo good. At my request, we went shopping for tequila for a gift. We sampled some excellent tequila including chocolate tequila. All I can say is ——-I have no idea where we were except near downtown Puerto Vallarta. Great personal tour and service— helping us all the way back to the gangplank of the ship!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review and for the 5-star rating! We’re thrilled to hear that you and your husband had a memorable experience with us. It was truly our pleasure to accommodate your needs and ensure a comfortable and enjoyable tour despite any physical challenges. Our goal is to make every guest feel welcome and cared for, and we’re delighted that we could be part of your time in Puerto Vallarta. We hope to have the pleasure of guiding you both on more adventures in the future! Warm regards, Pepe

Outstanding tour
Pepe was absolutely outstanding. He was a wealth of local and regional knowledge. He provided excellent conversation and gave such insightful and helpful comments the entire trip. In Sayulita he drove us through the town prior to stopping to point out a number of suggestions and tips. Kudos to you Pepe!!

Why this scores 72
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Sayulita Magical Town Tour: Local food, and chocolate.: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puerto Vallarta.
How much does Sayulita Magical Town Tour: Local food, and chocolate. cost?
+
Prices start at $80 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puerto Vallarta usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Sayulita Magical Town Tour: Local food, and chocolate. take?
+
Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puerto Vallarta is not rushed.
Is Sayulita Magical Town Tour: Local food, and chocolate. worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 72 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 18 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puerto Vallarta, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Sayulita Magical Town Tour: Local food, and chocolate.?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Sayulita Magical Town Tour: Local food, and chocolate. suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Sayulita Magical Town Tour: Local food, and chocolate.?
+
Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puerto Vallarta can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puerto Vallarta and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Sayulita Magical Town Tour: Local food, and chocolate. start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puerto Vallarta within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Puerto Vallarta?
+
On Outty we rank every Puerto Vallarta experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Winner 2026 Downtown Vallarta Food Tour with Vallarta Food Tours, Signature Taco Tour in PV with Vallarta Eats, Food & Mixology Tour:Tequila,Tacos, Mezcal and Agave Cocktails. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Puerto Vallarta?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Puerto Vallarta?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
