    A Great Food Experience

That day, my husband and I happened to be the only ones on the tour! We met Viv, our tour guide, who was knowledgeable, informative, and fun! We learned about wine pairings, and had some wonderful food experiences, especially a clam chowder that was absolutely AMAZING! A good time!

Response from the operator: Thank you for reviewing Viv and Gourmet Food & Wine Tours in beautiful Sausalito. I agree, The Barrel House has the BEST clam chowder in Sausalito and beyond. We hope you will come see us up in the wine country the next time you have a hankering for amazing food and wine pairings in place of a meal.

    A Great Lunch

My husband and I were the only 2 on the tour that day. The food and wine pairings were good, but the food was excellent on its own! ESPECIALLY the clam chowder!! Unlike any chowder I've tasted! Viv, our guide, was fun, informative, and knowledgeable. Overall, an excellent experience!.

Response from the operator: The clam chowder at The Barrel House IS the best! Thank you for reviewing Gourmet Food & Wine Tours and Vivian in Sausalito. We love how it leads others to knowing about what is essentially the best kept secret across from San Francisco! Come see us in the wine country next time!

Wonderful guide, food, wine and views

Our guide, Viv, was fun and well informed. The selected restaurants had wonderful food and wine. We were introduced to the best clam chowder we’ve ever had. We began with a Chandon bubbly and a cheese plate, moved to the restaurant with chowder accompanied by a lovely rose, and to Poggio for delicious gnudi with a great Scarpatta Barbera and ended with a bread pudding like no other with white port on an outdoor deck. Everywhere the views were great and the guide a good conversationalist.

Response from the operator: Wow, we love this tour too! Thank you for letting others know by leaving a review for Gourmet Food & Wine Tours in Sausalito. Viv is a wealth of knowledge of the spicy history and music/art scene that defines this beautiful village across from San Francisco. We really appreciate guests like you and hope you will come and see us in one of our Wine Country towns next time. Merci, Renee

    Great food selections

Great restaurant selections. Very good course selections: charcuterie w/ bubbly, unique clam chowder w rosé, gnudi w/ scarpetta, bread pudding w/ white port. Best food quality I’ve ever had on a food tour. Very informative and personable guide. Moderate flat walking in scenic location.

Response from the operator: We appreciate the review for our Sausalito experience with Gourmet Food & Wine Tours. We know it takes time to leave a thoughtful review and it feels nice to know we are on target for showcasing one of our most lovely and charming towns. Grazie, Renee

Great experience, loved the food and wine but left a little hungry

This review should be read in full since there are both pros and cons. Pros - 1. Viv was our tour guide and she was amazing! So incredibly personable and knowledgeable of all things food, wine, and the area! 2. The food was absolutely incredible, I actually went back to one of the restaurants after the tour because I was craving the one dish so much but the service was terrible (but not for the tour). 3. The wine and scenery were also amazing! Cons - Left hungry - see We knew another couple that eats about the same amount as we do and they left very full (different tour). I am not sure why but we were not full at all. I think this tour was arranged especially for us since the one we originally scheduled was cancelled. First place we each got a glass of sparkling wine and a cheese board to split. I am sure the cheeses were expensive and they were delicious - just not a lot of food. Second place only one glass of wine was ordered and that was split between my husband and I. We had the most incredible clam chowder that I ever had (that is what we went back for) and we each got a normal serving. Third place again - one serving of wine split between the two of us and one entre split between us and an order of flat bread split. Forth and final - again split the port wine, split a dessert. We figured out that that the company made $255 after food, wine and tip. I understand it is a business - again - we thoroughly enjoyed it, just would have liked a little more food and wine. Our tour guide was so incredibly sweet and gave us so much helpful advise...Hope this helps. Forgot to take a picture of the cheese board.

Response from the operator: Thank you for your thoughtful review. This is the first time since 2016 that I am hearing not enough food though. We are very clear in our marketing that everyone receives a half a glass of wine at each four stops. We buy the food like normal customers, pay tax and 20% tip. I can promise you we do not make $255, if only. As a matter of fact, we loose money on two people tours, but I did not want to cancel since you had already been moved. It seems like overall you had a good experience, and for that Viv and I are both happy!

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Sausalito.

How much does Sausalito Food and Wine Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $255 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Sausalito usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Sausalito Food and Wine Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 3.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Sausalito is not rushed.

Is Sausalito Food and Wine Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 51 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable food & drink in Sausalito, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Sausalito Food and Wine Tour?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Sausalito Food and Wine Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Sausalito Food and Wine Tour?

    +

Around 18 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Sausalito can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Sausalito and add a light layer if any part of the 3.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Sausalito Food and Wine Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Sausalito within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Sausalito?

    +

Outty ranks every bookable tour and activity in Sausalito by rating quality, review depth, booking demand and value, so you can see the standouts before you book. On Outty we rank every Sausalito experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Small-Group Wine Country Tour from San Francisco with Tastings, 2hr. INTERACTIVE Sailing Experience on San Francisco Bay, Muir Woods and Sausalito Half Day Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Sausalito?

    +

Spring and fall bring the best weather and lighter crowds in Sausalito, while summer has the widest choice of tours and evening activities. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Sausalito?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
