In the 1850s, longshoremen lived here. They would look out for ships coming into the bay and run down the hill to unload them. Grace Marchant planted the gardens in 1949 and are maintained by the neighbors in her memory.

Palace of Fine Arts Theatre
The Palace of Fine Arts was built in 1915 for the Panama Pacific Exposition. This was a retake to the canal 1914 opening. The architect was Bernard Maybeck, one of the world renowned architects in his time.
