About this experience
Explore a portion of the famous Routeburn Track, one of New Zealand’s ‘Great Walks,' on a day trip to the stunning Mt Aspiring National Park. Hike at a moderate pace on a trail that rises gradually from meadows and forest towards snow-capped peaks and hear informative commentary about the region and its flora and fauna from your expert guide. Lunch and snacks along with round-trip transport from Queenstown are included. Must be able to manage a steady 2-hour incline to Flats Hut and possibly a 1.5-hour steep hike to Falls Hut. Rocky paths, slippery surfaces, uneven ground with exposed tree roots, steep inclines and declines. The group must stay together so perhaps the Half day hike might be more suitable if you don't think you are fit enough?

Amazing day hike with a great guide!
My wife and I booked this full-day hike as part of our honeymoon. We were joined by a few other travellers in a small group for the hike. We highly recommend it! What made this day special was our guide, Angelo Georgalli. He is friendly, energetic, and caring. He knows so much about the nature and history of the lands. You could see his eyes sparkle when we spotted a few rare bird species. Also, he knew all the park rangers and staff and is a big part of the nature community there. Lastly, he frequently checked in with us to make sure we were moving at a good comfortable pace, while keeping us all on time. The views were amazing and the hike was a good challenge that pushed us.
Response from the operator: What a joy to hear about your incredible honeymoon hike with us! 🌿 Angelo's passion for nature and his knack for spotting unique wildlife certainly add magic to the trails. We’re thrilled the challenging paths and mesmerizing views made your adventure so memorable. Do come back and explore more of New Zealand with us someday!

Favorite Walk
I booked the full-day Routeburn hike through Nomads Queenstown and it was a highlight of my trip. My guide, Angelo Georgalli, was fantastic—super knowledgeable about the nature, birds, and surroundings, which made the experience so much more interesting. Everything was really well organised, and the scenery was incredible—waterfalls, forest, and amazing views up towards the saddle. We even had a bit of rain which made it more fun and adventurous. Highly recommend!
Response from the operator: It warms my heart to hear about your remarkable Routeburn hike with Angelo! His deep understanding of nature truly enhances the thrill of such adventures. I'm delighted that the day's organization and the stunning scenery left a deep impression on you. A touch of rain indeed adds an extra layer of fun and adventure!

Amazing views and great tour
Luke was an amazing tour guide! No one else showed up from the group so he did the tour for me solo and was very accommodating about going whatever pace I wanted / stopping when I wanted to. Snacks provided were good and views were incredible all day even in the rain - saw rainbow on the drive in and back too!
Response from the operator: How wonderful to hear about your solo adventure with Luke! His ability to adapt and personalise the tour, especially in unplanned circumstances, truly reflects his passion and dedication. I'm glad you enjoyed the snacks along with those breathtaking views, which include a touch of magic with rainbows!

Excellent Experience
What a phenomenal experience. Not only was the drive to the hike filled with epic scenery that literally did not feel real, but the hike itself was also breathtakingly beautiful. Our guide Angelo was so informative, kind, funny, and just a genuinely compassionate human being. I could not have asked any more from the tour, the group of people on the tour, and the guide. I highly suggest that you book this adventure during your trip to New Zealand. I can’t wait to do it again.
Response from the operator: What a joy to read about your phenomenal journey with Angelo! The epic scenery and breathtaking hike you described sound like moments worth cherishing. It fills us with pride to know that Angelo's informative and compassionate guidance turned your adventure into something truly special.

Great Day Out
Sure you could drive yourself there…. And do the walk on your own. And bring your own lunch …But going with group and guide was much more fun. The walk itself is easy. We are a group of 4 mid to late fifties friends. Not exactly in the prime of our lives - and it felt like a vigorous stroll. Aidan our guide was good for a chat - answered all our daft questions and drive us there and back in comfort. I think some of the info on here and on the direct website is a bit misleading. We were out and about from qtown for 8 hours including about 5 of walking - i dont recall the steep incline or decline mentioned in the brochure ?

Why this scores 76
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Routeburn Track Guided Hike (Full Day): questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Queenstown.
How much does Routeburn Track Guided Hike (Full Day) cost?
+
Prices start at $215 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Queenstown usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Routeburn Track Guided Hike (Full Day) take?
+
Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Queenstown is not rushed.
Is Routeburn Track Guided Hike (Full Day) worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 76 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 36 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Queenstown, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Routeburn Track Guided Hike (Full Day)?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Routeburn Track Guided Hike (Full Day) suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 4. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 10-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Routeburn Track Guided Hike (Full Day)?
+
Around 13 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Queenstown can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Queenstown and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Routeburn Track Guided Hike (Full Day) start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Queenstown within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Queenstown?
+
On Outty we rank every Queenstown experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Premium Milford Sound Small Group Tour & Cruise from Queenstown, Milford Sound Premium Small Group Tour & Cruise from Queenstown, Award Winning Premium Wine Tour Queenstown Tasting at 4 Wineries. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Queenstown?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Queenstown?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
