What you'll see and do
Puntarenas
Puntarenas is one of the most important tourism regions in Costa Rica. Its coastline is full of islands, inlets, beaches, and very beautiful natural treasures, all which make it an excellent tourist destination. There is a multitude of attractions based around the beaches, as well as protected areas, both land based and around its islands. The area’s center is located at Puntarenas which acts as a place for lodging, distribution, port of call, and excursions. The city of Puntarenas is rich in history, traditions and customs. Historically, it was the most important port in the Costa Rican Pacific, through which the main exports that allowed the development of the country during the 19th century and part of the 20th century took place. Due to its coastal position, it was an important center for the arrival of immigrants towards the middle of the 20th century. Its boom as a tourist destination dates back to 1940.

Note on Accessibility: To ensure your comfort, please be advised that the trail consists of gravel paths and involves navigating several sets of stairs. This is a wonderful way...
This is a wonderful way to experience the bird life, alligators and forests from the hanging bridges. Bridges were very safe to walk on. Guide was very knowledgeable about the birds and finding the meeting point was easy. They had a large sign with names on it. We faced traffic delays due to the holiday, construction and a race going on but the guide still got us back in plenty of time to get back on the ship
Response from the operator: Thank you for choosing Greenway Nature Tours! It's great to hear you enjoyed the wildlife, the landscapes, and the service from our guides. Pura vida, and see you next time!

Our guide was excellent....
Our guide was excellent. River boat for crocs and birds was well done. We saw 2 lizards, leaf cutter ants and a dart frog on our forest walk. No monkeys, sloths or other wildlife. A pleasant easy walk. Very stable bridges.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us feedback. We really appreciate it and hope to serve you again in the near future.

Great Day in Puntarenas!
The Shore Excursion: Puntarenas Highlights 6 in 1 Combo Tour was an excellent choice. Driver, Fernando, and tour guide, Ronald did a wonderful job navigating through the day and keeping us safe. We were picked up at the Puntarenas cruise port, and joined a small group for the tour in an air conditioned van. The hike in the rainforest jungle across three suspension bridges was manageable. The terrain was uneven, with a combination of dirt paths, stepping stones and steps. The foliage was lush and beautiful, the weather, hot and humid, and the insects were kept away with repellant. The hike was slippery in places, so good traction shoes are a must, and a walking stick (provided) was helpful. Crossing the suspension bridges was thrilling, but be prepared for bouncing and swaying. The visit to the Crocodile Safari for a boat ride along the along the Tarcoles River was great. The driver, and tour guide were knowledgeable, and pointed out many American crocodiles, and a variety of birds native to the area. Each guest was given a pamphlet on local birds with photos and description for reference. There was a stop for shopping, snacks and refreshments and then we were returned to Puntarenas Cruise Port. It was a great day!
Response from the operator: It was a pleasure to read that you enjoyed your trip with us and I would like to personally thank you for sharing the positive aspects of your experience. On behalf of the team here at Greenway Tours, we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Fun Time seeing something new instead of just another beach!
The guide was easy to find when getting off the ship. The bus was clean. The rain forest was fun but we only saw 1 toucan and 1 frog; no monkeys. The crocodile river boat was very interesting and we saw lots of crocs old and young. Our tour guide was great. Upon arrival back to the port they did not do a short sightseeing tour of Puntarenas city. Not quite sure why it is called ‘6 in1’. But we enjoyed it. Great for families.
Response from the operator: Thanks for sharing your experience. Hope to serve you again in the near future

Why this scores 63
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Puntarenas Highlights 6 in 1 Shore Excursion: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puntarenas.
How much does Puntarenas Highlights 6 in 1 Shore Excursion cost?
+
Prices start at $100 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puntarenas usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Puntarenas Highlights 6 in 1 Shore Excursion take?
+
Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puntarenas is not rushed.
Is Puntarenas Highlights 6 in 1 Shore Excursion worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.2/5 across 47 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puntarenas, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Puntarenas Highlights 6 in 1 Shore Excursion?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Puntarenas Highlights 6 in 1 Shore Excursion suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Puntarenas Highlights 6 in 1 Shore Excursion?
+
Around 16 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puntarenas can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puntarenas and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Puntarenas Highlights 6 in 1 Shore Excursion start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puntarenas within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Puntarenas?
+
On Outty we rank every Puntarenas experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tortuga Island Tour with Costa Cat, Small Group Night Walking Tour in Monteverde, Small Group Wildlife Refuge Monteverde Night Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Puntarenas?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Puntarenas?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
