Xiaoyoukeng Recreation Area
Xiaoyoukeng is situated 800 meters above sea level. The feature sceneries include natural volcano air holes, hot springs, sulfur crystals, and landslide terrain. The unique natural scenery is the best place for natural science.
30 minutes here
A mountain-top flatland park, Qingtiangang provides amazing views of Yangmingshan National Park. By definition a lava terrace, the area was formed as a result of volcanic activity in the mountains nearby. After the eruption of Mt. Zhugao, the lava flowed north towards the area, creating this unique landscape. During the Japanese occupation, the area was established as a ranch for cattle to graze. The park is still home to cows and other wildlife. This area of Yangmingshan is very easily shrouded in clouds due to its elevation.
60 minutes here
Don't let the name fool you! Lengshuikeng literally means "Cold Water Pit," but the water here is a comfortable 40°C. It earned its nickname only because it is much cooler than nearby springs that exceed 90°C. It is a must-visit for its stunning Milk Lake, the Jingshan Suspension Bridge, and the popular free public foot soak.

Yangmingshan Bamboo Lake
Zhuzihu features seasonal flowers like calla lilies and hydrangeas only during fixed months. If your visit falls outside these periods, you may opt to visit a restaurant or cafe on Yangmingshan for a break (optional)

Tourists Beware
BEWARE, this guide could change your plans last minute on tour day. We carefully planned for weeks and agreed in advance on Yehliu Geopark, Xian Dong Yan Temple/cave and the Keelung fish/shrimp market since they were all in the same area for our private tour day with Nicolas. Instead of Xian Dong Yan temple/cave, Nicolas changed the itinerary last minute on day of the tour. He took us to Zhaoling Temple, which we specifically had no interest in seeing, also an expensive $100 lunch for 2 (only the guide and I ate), pressured us to order more food at the restaurant that felt commission driven. Last stop, instead of taking us to Xian Dong Yan Cave Temple like we planned (20 minutes away from the restaurant), he drove 45 minutes to Jiufen, the tea house where he insisted we ordered tea on a scorching hot day that was planned for another day (it also seemed commission driven). We felt exploited by a guide who was only interested in collecting commissions on top of charging $340 per day. We ended up canceling the second tour entirely but still paid him in full ($680 plus tip for 2 days). Unfortunately, the experience left such a bitter, disgusting impression that we shortened our Taipei stay and flew back to Japan early. In contrast, our guides in Japan consistently honored the agreed itinerary exactly, often exceeded expectations by comparison. This experience with Nicolas felt deeply dishonest and predatory from start to finish.

Great tour of the mountains above Taipei
Great tour in the mountains so close to Taipei. The scenery was beautiful, especially the blooming cherry trees but the highlight was visiting the volcano, a site I will always remember. The guide was a great source of information and a very safe driver on very challenging roads. I highly recommend this tour.

Highly recommend Nicholas Ying as guide/driver for 5 hours tour to Yangmingshan National Park
I was lucky to be assigned Nicholas Ying as my guide and driver. I had a 5 hour tour with Nicholas to Yangmingshan National Park where we visited Yangming Flower Clock park, Xiaoyoukeng Recreation area, Qingtiangang Grassland Trails and Jingshan Suspension Bridge. Although it was foggy but Nicholas had checked the weather conditions before arriving to decide which area to visit first so I had an enjoyable time. Nicholas also went pass Yangmingshan American Military Housing area to show me the area and a hidden spot with a beautiful view of Taipei city. For lunch Nicolas recommended me a very nice local Taiwanese Traditional Vermicelli restaurant which was delicious. I highly recommend Nicholas as he was always considerate, punctual, very informative, took initiative, flexible if there were any interesting things along the tour and very sincere. He was also a foodie which was another bonus as I was always interested was very local food. Nicholas was also a very careful driver which was a bonus. He made sure I was comfortable in the car especially since we did travel a lot in very wet and rainy conditions. I was lucky to have Nicolas for 3 separate day tours in Taipei and I highly recommend Nicholas for anyone traveling to Taiwan.

His thoughtful planning, attention to weather conditions, and flexibility in arranging the route truly help guests enjoy the best of Yangmingshan, even on foggy or rainy days. It’s great that you enjoyed the scenic stops and local vermicelli lunch — Nicholas’s passion for sharing Taiwan’s food and culture really shines through. We sincerely appreciate your detailed and heartfelt recommendation and hope to welcome you back for more memorable tours in Taiwan! —Lawson @ YOLO Taiwan

Why this scores 77
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private Yangmingshan Volcano Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Taipei.
How much does Private Yangmingshan Volcano Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $95 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Taipei usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Yangmingshan Volcano Tour take?
+
Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Taipei is not rushed.
Is Private Yangmingshan Volcano Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 77 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 70 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Taipei, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Yangmingshan Volcano Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private Yangmingshan Volcano Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private Yangmingshan Volcano Tour?
+
Around 25 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Taipei can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Taipei and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Yangmingshan Volcano Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Taipei within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Taipei?
+
On Outty we rank every Taipei experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Full-Day Private Custom Taipei City Tour, Private Tour to Jiufen, Yehliu Geopark, and Pingxi, Full-Day Private Northern Taiwan Tour from Taipei with Pickup. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Taipei?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Taipei?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
