Not a luxury van and not a fluent English speaking driver.

Trip to Orvieto and Civita di
Bagnoregio we had a serious problem with our booking and tried to deal with the tour company before making this review. The response they gave us was very disappointing, where they accused our group of being bad disruptive customers. We are a group of retired freinds. I stumbled across Viator as I was embarking upon this new adventure to Europe a few weeks ago. I’ve done a few bookings with Viator in the past few days, and have always been very happy and very pleased with everything. But this last adventure was a complete disappointment. I suppose Viator has hired a “middleman” to bring us on a 8 hour trip and it was a joke. It really was NOT a good van to travel in for four hours. Just because it says Mercedes-Benz, does not mean it’s a luxury vehicle. This particular van was more of a minivan style. And it was configured more as an airport shuttle van than a luxury travel van. It had two seats that were opposing with a lot of room for luggage behind the backseat where the seats could've been spread further apart. So for a travel van to have an opposing seat is not ideal because you can't see anything in the direction you're traveling. Also our knees were hitting each other that's how tight the seats were together. The seats were not able to recline and were in a straight up position as it was too tight for them to be in any other position. As well was quite cold on the morning that we left and there was basically no heat in the back of the van. The shocks on the van were worn out and the ride was quite uncomfortable. Also very noisy due to the fact that it was a lower end Mercedes van. For a company of this size to bad mouth us, is quite shocking! we didn't have so much as a bottle of water in the van. We ate no food in the van and doubt very much that the driver accused us of what you are saying. I think it is a lie and you're trying to cover up your lousy service and lousy Van. We have nothing against the driver other than the fact that he was very poor in his English and could not really not understand what we were saying to him. Seriously, we never swore at the driver, it wasn’t his fault, he was just the driver, doing his job. We actually felt bad for the guy. But we were very unhappy….we paid $1000euros! (1,600.00 canadian) for this “luxury” English speaking guided tour” and we were obviously very disappointed when he pulled up. We were shocked, and upset; we had a 8hour tour ride in this….vehicle! After the driver showed up and a lot of discussion, being upset almost crying, we decided to make the best of it. We toke the trip because there was not any other choice at this point. We were just hoping that Avaitor would respond appropriately to the fact that they booked this van, and hoping they unknowing booked this worn vehicle. Did I mention that the back seats were worn out and made you fall toward the door! From the outside it looks like a decent vehicle but trust me when I say it is the furthest thing from a luxury travel van that you can get. At best an airport shuttle. But, so disappointing that they were not willing to acknowledge their mistake. Anyway, we will not be dealing with this company anymore. We can only warn those who are thinking of it, to be aware…. We are three retired couples from Canada travelling and have worked very hard our entire lives to be able to do these holidays. We would never do anything to dirty or damage somebody else's property. That this company will stoop to such a low level…spreading lies about its customers, just to??? Save money? so so sad!

Response from the operator: As I wrote to you on WhatsApp, the vehicle is a top-of-the-line one, the best on the market, a Mercedes-Benz V-Class. The driver is a driver guide; the service description doesn't mention "tour guide" or even an English-speaking assistant. Furthermore, the driver reported that you swore at him, insulted him, and dirtied the entire van by throwing trash on the floor, staining all the upholstery. We've been doing this job for twenty years, and fortunately, we've never had rude customers like you. We have hundreds of positive reviews on all the services we provide. Fortunately, we've never had rude, arrogant and lying customers like you.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
