Excellent Trip for those with Mobility Issues

Captain Jack picked us up right at the dock for easy boarding. He asked exactly what we wanted to see and added a few surprises that I won’t spoil for anyone looking to book. His boat is extremely comfortable, especially for those of us with mobility issues. The flat fee for a private tour was so worth it over the larger boats with a lot of people. He personalized the tour and with his knowledge of this area and all the historical connections he shared made the trip enjoyable and educational. We highly recommend booking with Captain Jack.

Response from the operator: Thanks, Trevor! While all parties are welcome to book with me, I am particularly proud of the accessibility my custom-built boat provides. And I do love being able to customize tours for my passengers—it's why I offer private bookings. Glad to have had you on board!

Fantastic private excursion with Captain Jack

Captain Jack was waiting for us exactly as planned, and since we were the first people off the ship, he was already there early and ready to go. That was a pretty great start to the day. As a photographer who loves wildlife and landscapes, this excursion was exactly what I was hoping for. He took us to see an amazing harbor seal colony, colorful sea stars, and some beautiful coastal scenery around Ketchikan. We were also lucky enough to be the first charter of the day on the first birthday of his boat, which made the trip feel even more special and gave us something fun to celebrate with him. I really appreciated that we never felt rushed. We had time to enjoy what we were seeing, take photos, and just soak in the scenery. The seals were definitely a highlight for me, and the misty rainforest, rocky shoreline, and green water were gorgeous. Captain Jack was friendly, accommodating, and clearly knew the area well. We had such a fun morning with him and would absolutely recommend his charter, especially if you love wildlife, photography, or just want a more personal way to experience Ketchikan.

Response from the operator: Thank you, Colette! And thanks too for sharing a few of your photos with me via Instagram: they are stunning! It was great to share my boat's birthday/splash date anniversary with you and your group. It was also great fun for me to watch all of you snapping photos. Though I spend countless hours on these waters, and never tire of the scenery, it's always interesting and refreshing to see what draws the eyes of others. Thanks again for booking with me!

    Highlight of Ketchikan

Our day in Ketchikan was a highlight of the trip, and our private tour with Captain Jack of Fishability Alaska was a huge part of making the day so memorable. Worth every penny - if you're looking for an intimate way to explore the area around Ketchikan, you've found it! Captain Jack met us right by the cruise ship, with a very short walk and easy loading. There were four of us total, and the private tour experience was one-of-a-kind!. Captain Jack is professional and friendly - he didn't just tell us about Ketchikan, it felt like he invited us in to a part of his life. Not only was the tour filled with beautiful views and coves, but we saw some incredible wildlife, including a humpback whale that was surface lunge feeding - breathtaking! We also saw seals, jellyfish, bald eagles, starfish, and I'm sure even more than I can remember. We were so captivated by everything we saw, we kept asking questions - and he had detailed answers and fascinating stories. Highly recommend - book this for your day in Ketchikan before it's already gone! I would tour the entirety of Alaska with Captain Jack if he offered!

Response from the operator: Thank you for these kind words—and I am especially pleased to learn that you felt like I was giving you a taste of the life here, as that is exactly my objective. I'm always happy to see any wildlife (and a lunge-feeding whale is especially exciting), but I'm really just so thrilled to be able to share my hometown and its stunning surroundings with anyone who comes to visit. I wish I knew as much about Alaska as I've learned about Ketchikan...and that learning never stops!

    Best excursion in Ketchikan!

Absolutely incredible experience while in Ketchikan. Accessible boat for anyone who needs accommodations. Picked us up right at our dock. We were able to get so close to so many amazing animals and see incredible wildlife! Captain Jack is extremely knowledgeable and created once in a lifetime memories for us!

Response from the operator: Thanks so much! Accessibility is key to my program…the boat was built for that purpose. Wheelchairs, power chairs, scooters, and walkers are welcome. And yes, I will get the boat as close to your ship as possible! Glad you enjoyed the outing—thanks for making this tour a part of your journey through Alaska!

    Capt Jack

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely Incredible Ketchikan Boat Tour with Captain Jack! Our three-hour boat tour of Ketchikan with Captain Jack was truly one of the highlights of our Alaska trip! From the moment we stepped aboard, Jack was personable, professional, friendly, and incredibly engaging. His knowledge of Ketchikan, the surrounding waters, and the local wildlife made the entire experience so much more memorable. The wildlife viewing was amazing. We saw colorful sea stars, a mink along the shoreline, a pod of harbor seals, Sitka deer, and even a whale! Jack knew exactly where to take us and shared interesting information along the way without ever making the tour feel scripted or rushed. What really made the experience special was Captain Jack himself. He was easy to talk to, genuinely enthusiastic about the area, and made us feel completely comfortable throughout the trip. It felt much more personal than a typical sightseeing excursion. If you’re visiting Ketchikan and want an intimate, memorable way to experience the beauty and wildlife of Alaska, I highly recommend spending a few hours on the water with Captain Jack. Five stars without hesitation. We would absolutely book with him again!

Response from the operator: Thank you very much! I am sincerely grateful for your generous words, and so pleased that you found the joy in this place that I love to share with visitors. That mink was especially delightful, given his timing—and we definitely scored with the combination of marine mammals and land animals! Thanks again for selecting my tour among the many offerings here in Ketchikan. I hope that the rest of your travels were just as enjoyable!

Private Tour: Alaskan Wildlife & Scenery, Priced by Group Size: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Ketchikan.

How much does Private Tour: Alaskan Wildlife & Scenery, Priced by Group Size cost?

    +

Prices start at $450 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Ketchikan usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Tour: Alaskan Wildlife & Scenery, Priced by Group Size take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Ketchikan is not rushed.

Is Private Tour: Alaskan Wildlife & Scenery, Priced by Group Size worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 13 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Ketchikan, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Tour: Alaskan Wildlife & Scenery, Priced by Group Size?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Tour: Alaskan Wildlife & Scenery, Priced by Group Size suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Tour: Alaskan Wildlife & Scenery, Priced by Group Size?

    +

Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Ketchikan can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Ketchikan and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Tour: Alaskan Wildlife & Scenery, Priced by Group Size start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Ketchikan within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Ketchikan?

    +

Ketchikan runs short, cruise-timed excursions: Misty Fjords floatplane flights, Tongass rainforest zip lines, totem park tours, crab feasts and wildlife boats up the Behm Canal. On Outty we rank every Ketchikan experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Ketchikan Kayak Eco-Tour, Off the Beaten Path Ketchikan Photo Safari - 3 hr., Ketchikan Shore Excursion: Rainforest Canopy Ropes and Zipline Adventure Park. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Ketchikan?

    +

May to September, matching the Alaska cruise season. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Ketchikan?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
