Good experience
Great private lesson. Teacher was chill and the equipment was new.

Great value, great time! Wetsuits were great in the freezing water!
I did a group lesson and I was very happy with it. Great value €30 for everything and felt like I learned a lot in 1.5 hr. I booked the following day for a private lesson also great value €60 for everything 1.5hr but I was a bit disappointed this time. My instructor was the owner or manager so he was super busy when I arrived welcoming guests and getting their things ready so by the time we finally picked up my surf board (the best ones for learning had already gone out with the group lessons) it was already 20 minutes into the lesson. He apologised and I didn’t mind because I just expected we’d finish our lesson 20 minutes later. We didn’t- we got out of the water before all of the group lessons and got back to the surf shop 10 minutes earlier. I just felt a bit ripped off in that instance. And i just felt like during the lesson he had better things to think about. He never gave me any specific feedback. Just kept saying try again. I felt like I learned more in the group lesson and actually got worse in the private lesson. Maybe just a one off but something to be mindful of with other paying guests I would say. Otherwise I did still enjoy myself just that one bit of feedback.

The perfect surf experience
Fantastic! I'm a semi experienced surfer (I surf at home but am VERY rusty). Everything about this was great. The school is right across the street from a very beginner friendly surf break. They waves are gentle and consistent. Depending on your level, there are different parts of the break they'll take you to. The water is cold so be ready for that (For you Americans, it's similar to the water temperature in NYC or San Francisco) They provide wetsuits so don't stress. On top of that, you can leave all your things in lockers at the school so there's no worrying about dropping something on the beach. I definitely recommend working with Abel. He was my instructor and he was friendly and experienced. Such a nice guy. I'd always struggled with turning left (like zoolander) and during the session I pulled off some of the cleanest left turns of my life. If you want to surf in porto, look no further.
Response from the operator: Tanks for your fantastic description. I hope to see you again soon .

10/10 experience 🌺🩷🌸
I had an incredible experience at Fish Surf School in Porto! 🌊 I’ve taken surf lessons in Bali, Greece, and Australia, but I can honestly say I got the most out of this school. The team — especially Ricardo, Ivan, and Miguel — made every session fun, supportive, and motivating. What really sets them apart is how much they genuinely care about your progress. They don’t just get you into the water — they guide you step by step, making sure you’re learning the right techniques, building confidence, and actually getting on the waves. I could feel myself improving every lesson, which made it so rewarding. If you’re in Porto and want to learn how to surf (or get better at it), this is the surf school to go to. I can’t recommend Ricardo, Ivan, Miguel, and the whole crew enough. Thanks to them, I left Porto a much better surfer — and with amazing memories. 🌟
Response from the operator: was a pleasure to receive you in fish surf school, see you soon

Why this scores 61
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private surf class in Porto: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Porto.
How much does Private surf class in Porto cost?
+
Prices start at $71 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Porto usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private surf class in Porto take?
+
Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Porto is not rushed.
Is Private surf class in Porto worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 31 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Porto, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private surf class in Porto?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private surf class in Porto suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private surf class in Porto?
+
Around 11 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Porto can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Porto and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private surf class in Porto start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Porto within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Porto?
+
On Outty we rank every Porto experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Unvanquished Tour in Porto City Center, Porto's #1 Walking Tour, Small Group Geres National Park Full Day with picnic from Porto. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Porto?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Porto?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
