Kim Bong Carpentry Village
Kim Bồng woodworking village (Vietnamese: Làng mộc Kim Bồng) is a village located in Cẩm Kim commune, Hội An, Quảng Nam Province, most notable for its carpentry (including cabinet making and shipbuilding) and traditional woodworking products. Established in the 15th century, it reached its peak in the 18th century, during which time village craftsmen contributed their skills in woodworking to many different projects, including the Imperial capital in Huế.[1] Using their shipbuilding skills, they supplied ships and ghe bầu (large boats used for sailing) for the activities of the busy commercial port of Hội An.[1] To deal with a marked decline of interest in the woodworking profession during the 20th century, the village successfully offered training and other incentives to young apprentices,[1] resulting in an increase to over 200 woodworkers and 18 different woodcarving companies as of 2008.[2] Additionally, a successful community-based tourism project in Kim Bồng has allowed greater tourism revenue for the village; the venture's success has been suggested as a pattern for future sustainable tourism projects throughout Southeast Asia.[3] The village's name comes from the Vietnamese kim (yellow) and bồng (floating), supposedly after the jackfruit wood that sometimes floats on the Thu Bồn River.

Competitively priced and great way of seeing village life
We had a wonderful 4 hours spent with this company. We were collected at bikes from our hotel just outside Hoi An and explored many local villages. We loved going on the coconut boats, fishing for crabs, seeing weavers, Pearl decorators, wood carvers and noodle makers at work. The best but was riding on the backs of the bikes through hidden gems, seeing Vietnamese village life. It did pour with rain at one stage on our trip and we went to sit it out in a local coffee shop. It was very competitively priced and just what we wanted. We opted for a tour without lunch as we had a small snack in our hotel prior to leaving. We opted for motorcycles unread of bikes as we were worried that cycling in the heat would be far too hot. Driving on the motorbikes provided us with a pleasant breeze throughout the journey.

Get outside the city and experience Vietnam!
We had an incredible day on the back of the scooters. I was a bit worried at first, with the first stop at the silk factory being 5 minutes from our hotel and right in the middle of Hoi An. But after that we were well off the beaten track, going through small villages and stopping off at places where we were the only ones there. Literally no other tourists. Our guide Thanh was brilliant. He pointed out lots of things while we drove, and was very knowledgeable. I went with my 16 year old son, and he also enjoyed it (those with teens will understand how much that comment means...).
