About this experience

Located northwest of Thamel is a sacred temple with an idol is of great mysterious origin. This incredible 5 meters long black stone features the powerful Hindu deity Visnu lying on the cosmic sea. Budhanilkantha temple dates back well over 1000 years to the time of the Licchavi Dynasty that ruled the Kathmandu Valley.   No one knows where this incredible five-meter stone came from. It did not originate in the Kathmandu Valley. It was carried from some faraway location and fashioned into the peaceful image of Lord Visnu lying on the Cosmic Sea once on the site. You mingle with the Hindu worshiper and priests as they perform their sacred Pujas above the waters that the incredible idol lays upon.  It is here you travel with your private guide who explains all of the symbolism and meaning of this amazing place. Most visitors to the Kathmandu Valley will sadly miss this place. Don’t be one of them!

A nice half day getaway

Shanti is a very knowledgeable guide. She explained all the detail we need to know about the temple as well as answered all our questions. She even kind enough to tour us through the stores next to the temple.

Response from the operator: Hi Tsung-Ying, We sincerely appreciate your patronage and for sharing your feedback about the trip to Nepal. Your feedback is invaluable to our community as we continuously work towards enhancing our services. Thank you once again for your comment, and we hope you have a wonderful time ahead. Off the beaten path in Kathmandu

This was a delightful tour. Our guide Ananta was very informative and arrived early to pick us up. We were able to experience a Hindu service at the Krishna temple. I think we might see more beautiful temples elsewhere but this was off the regular tourist path and we enjoyed that.

Brilliant Budhanilkantha tour

This tour was outstanding! I was picked up at my hotel and we traveled in a very nice car to this famous Hindu pilgramage site. My guide, Shanti is an experienced and certified guide with a masters degree to back her deep knowledge. Shanti speaks English fluently and shared much about the Hindu religion, the different gods, and Nepal life. I truly enjoyed the tour and appreciated the deep history and explanation provided. We did a quick spin at the surrounding market which helped merge the religion with everyday life. So fun!!!!!!

Response from the operator: Hi Lynn, We sincerely appreciate your patronage and for sharing your feedback about the trip to Nepal. Your feedback is invaluable to our community as we continuously work towards enhancing our services. Thank you once again for your comment, and we hope you have a wonderful time ahead. Namaste!

Mesmerizing

This was our favorite site in the Kathmandu Valley. It is a little far away from the city center but it is the most serene and beautiful place. As established with the agency, the private car came to pick us up in our hotel right on time. The car was comfortable, with air condition and new. The driver very polite with a safe driving style. The tour guide was simply magnificent. Shanti is a young woman who had studied Napali art and culture at the University. Her knowledge is amazing. I am an art historian and I was very interested in the statue of Vishnu. She explained it from the general to the particular, meaning first she spoke about the religious context than, the meaning of the water, the sleeping God, the rituals, the offerings. We did not want to leave. It was mesmerizing. Thank you for such a beautiful excursion. Please preserve all these places. I am a tourist and I am aware that tourism can be polluting. If you go to Budhanilkanta be respectful, do not take photos, stay away from the worshipers. The Kathmandu Valley is a very fragile and vulnerable place.

Response from the operator: Hello and Namaste, Thank you for choosing Himalayan Planet Adventure to organized your trip. We are so glad that you satisfied with our service and guide Shanti. We would like to welcome you again for the different holiday plan in Nepal. With best regards.

Private Half Day Budhanilkantha Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kathmandu.

How much does Private Half Day Budhanilkantha Tour cost?

+

Prices start at $35 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kathmandu usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Half Day Budhanilkantha Tour take?

+

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kathmandu is not rushed.

Is Private Half Day Budhanilkantha Tour worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Kathmandu, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Half Day Budhanilkantha Tour?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Half Day Budhanilkantha Tour suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 11. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 2-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Private Half Day Budhanilkantha Tour?

+

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kathmandu can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kathmandu and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Half Day Budhanilkantha Tour start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kathmandu within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Kathmandu?

+

On Outty we rank every Kathmandu experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Private Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour | UNESCO World Heritage sites, Classic Everest Base Camp Trek, Manaslu Circuit Trek. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Kathmandu?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Kathmandu?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
