What you get

    About this experience

Come with us in a one-day adventure through Bulgaria with a private 4wd Dacia Duster SUV. We leave Bucharest and head for the medieval town of Veliko, where we will visit the Tsarevets fortress and the picturesque places in the city. We then go to the Shipka monument and to the eagle's nest, a mountainous area where the battle for the liberation of Bulgaria was given. At the end we will reach one of the most famous communist monuments in Europe, the Buzludzha Monument, which looks like a flying saucer at 1400 meters altitude.

    Above expectation adventure highly recommend!

I am a solo female traveler in my late 40’s and have seen this monument on many YouTube videos for years. When this activity popped up in my search of things to do I knew I had to go! My guide and the owner of the company Alex was so gracious and great conversation. We traveled all day around Bulgaria with him explaining detailed history on several different sites we stopped at including a fortress with a crazy church now deemed monument due to the art inside it, the site of the “eagles nest”, several iconic communist monuments and the crown jewel of Buzludzha. He provided a tasty picnic, plenty of water, and an absolute wonderful day. I enjoyed it so much I booked a second day with him to go hiking in the Bucegi mountains. It was a terrific experience. I originally had been concerned about weather being too hot and had cancelled but changed my mind and was so glad I did! If you want a safe catered to you experience seeing historical or obscure sites while in Bucharest he is the one to choose!

    Awesome Trip to Bulgaria

We took the day trip with Alex and Geo last week and it was great! It's a long drive and they were both a pleasure to chat with in between sites, and had a lot of knowledge about the places we visited. The weather didn't cooperate but it just made for much cooler photos. The lunch they provided was great with a special thanks to Alex's mom and grandmother for the pie and drink! We would definitely recommend joining any trips/adventures that they are offering. Just overall great people to spend a day with. Also, this specific tour was the only one that went to these specific places. Most tours go to the usual tourist places, but if you want to see something new and different, definitely take their tour. If we get back to Romania we will definitely be taking another tour with them. Thanks to you both!

Response from the operator: Aww, thank you guys, it was a pleasure to have you in this tour. Geo also buyed goretex pants, did you buyed goretex jacket?:)) Cheers!

    Two Thumbs Up For Alex

This was a great tour and Alex was a wonderful guide. He was friendly, kind, knowledgeable, and best of all, he was great company. While completing the tour, we ran into a great deal of snow on the mountains (we were visiting in January) and had to course correct. Alex did so without hesitation. He ended up taking us on a hike instead—and luckily he had warned us to wear appropriate clothing and shoes ahead of time, just in case. Because of this, we were still able to see everything we wanted to. He also provided us with a great home-cooked meal afterwards. I’d definitely recommend taking a tour with Alex.

Fantastic guide with a wonderful itinerary

Alex was by far the highlight of this trip. I knew finding an off the beaten path tour to see Bulgaria in January would be a difficult task but Alex made it an unforgettable experience. We really enjoyed the pace of the day and there was a great balance of information as well as some down time to ensure we were really able to capture the feeling of the country. The day was full of adventure and it was really topped off with a delicious homemade lunch. When the road up to Buzludzha wasn’t able to be driven, Alex quickly shifted that time to a hike which was a wonderful way to see nature and enjoy our time up and down the mountain. I cannot recommend Alex enough as a tour guide. I look forward to returning to Bucharest and exploring again with him.

Private Daytrip to Buzludzha Monument and Veliko Tarnovo: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Bucharest.

How much does Private Daytrip to Buzludzha Monument and Veliko Tarnovo cost?

    +

Prices start at $355 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Bucharest usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Daytrip to Buzludzha Monument and Veliko Tarnovo take?

    +

Plan for about 12 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Bucharest is not rushed.

Is Private Daytrip to Buzludzha Monument and Veliko Tarnovo worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 19 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Bucharest, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Daytrip to Buzludzha Monument and Veliko Tarnovo?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Daytrip to Buzludzha Monument and Veliko Tarnovo suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 12-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Daytrip to Buzludzha Monument and Veliko Tarnovo?

    +

Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Bucharest can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Bucharest and add a light layer if any part of the 12-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Daytrip to Buzludzha Monument and Veliko Tarnovo start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Bucharest within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Bucharest?

    +

On Outty we rank every Bucharest experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Real tour of Communism, Bucharest Highlights Walking Tour, Top Gear Road, Small-group max 7 pax with Pick-up, Transfăgărăşan. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Bucharest?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Bucharest?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
