Stift Nonnberg
Nonnberg Abbey is the oldest convent north of the Alps and is where the real Maria became a novice nun and married Georg von Trapp. Four scenes from the film were filmed here: the scene where the nuns sing "Maria" in the courtyard, Maria leaving the abbey, the children visiting her at the abbey and the Nazis hunting the von Trapps. Villa Trapp
Although was not a filming location, it would be a shame to miss it on your day trip. The real von Trapp family lived here for 15 years. They managed to board a train at the nearby station to escape the Nazis the day before the Austrian borders were closed. Today, the von Trapp villa is a hotel and an educational Sound of Music museum about the real von Trapp family, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at the filming of the movie. SOUND OF MUSIC TOUR - FANTASTIC TIME WITH TOMAS
The day started with Driver (Tomas) picking us up from our hotel in Munich. He was diligent and prompt with time. He came ahead of time and patiently waited till we were ready. He brought all of us (family of 4) umbrellas without us asking because he said the forecast says some rain. He gave us drinks and his car was super clean and cosy. He prompted us to take our passports for border checks which was very helpful. Tomas is the most professional and patient driver ever. He drives very well and his car is so safe. He takes the most amazing pictures and videos. He volunteers assistance every time. He acted as a tour guide and only conteibutes when necessary. He even gave us hot-spot and was so patient and knew all the sound of music spots. His umbrella came in very handy when we got to the Gazebo and it was raining heavily. In all, the trip was 1000 out of 100 because Tomas is just exceptional and the sweetest person of all time. If you can, request for Tomas all the time because you will have a complete package. Lots of love from us Tomas ❤️ 💕 💗

We had a great experience on this tour. Lukas was a very professional driver that we were able to chat with back and forth to Salzburg. This was not a guided tour, but we loved the freedom of our own schedule and to focus on what was more meaningful to us.

Dominik great driver....
Dominik great driver. Although Dominik planned out a walking tour of Salizburg and the Sound of music tour, he couldn't walk us through the old village of Salizburg. We understood because of Austrian tour guide must be licensed. We understood that from the tour operator before we left on holiday. We, before we left, downloaded The Rick Steves Audio walking tour of Salzburg & used that. Dominik was able to take us to other areas of Salizburg & he was extremely accommodating & polite. We are pleased.

Day trip to Salzburg with Sound of Music.
Enjoyed a safe day trip transport from Munich to Salzburg and return to Munich. Beautiful sights along the highway and Salzburg is stunning. However, this trip should be advertised as a day trip to Salzburg. The Sound of Music highlights were very challenging. The first stop was the park area where the song do re mi ended. Our driver dropped us off to explore the area. The park is beautiful and we were able to discover several of the areas from the movie. We were picked up by our driver and next dropped off by old town Salzburg. We were told to explore and have lunch. After being picked up we were brought to the river area where Maria and the children fell out of the boat. At that point we were told the Von Trapp home is not an option to see since it's private property. We were then told the convent and concert location (from the end of the movie) are near old town where we had lunch. Asked the driver to return us to the area again to locate these two sights. We were dropped off, given some general directions and had to locate both on our own. It was very difficult. If we didn't have a phone with GPS it would have been impossible. The convent is up a very steep hill, which we did locate. The concert area was closed to the public. We were not expecting to be dropped off in areas and find locations on our own. The people of Salzburg were very friendly and the only way we found certain things was because of their help. I'm overlooking several major things with this review and feel giving 3 stars is being very generous considering the cost of this tour.

Some Sound of Music locations are spread across Salzburg and require walking, and certain places may be private property or closed to the public on the day of travel. These access limitations are unfortunately outside the driver’s control. The driver did his best to bring you as close as possible to the relevant areas, provide directions, and adapt by returning you to the Old Town area when requested. That said, we understand your point that the product wording may have created stronger expectations of a guided Sound of Music experience. We will review the description to make sure it is clearer that this is primarily a private day trip to Salzburg with Sound of Music-related stops, rather than an escorted film-location tour.
