About this experience
It is said that in a previous life, the future Buddha Siddhartha Gautama was a prince living here on the rim of the Kathmandu Valley. One day he encountered a hungry tigress that had just given birth to tiger cubs. She lay weak and dying, and unable to feed her newborns. In true personal sacrifice that was characteristic of Lord Buddha, he offered his arm which brought life back to the tigress, saving her life and the life of her cubs. Namo Buddha is one of three wonderful Buddhist pilgrimage sites around the greater Kathmandu Valley. Two are within a short distance from Thamel, but this one is up beyond the ridge. From here are magnificent views of the Himalayas. Pass the world’s tallest statue of Lord Shiva on the way as he stands guard over the Kathmandu Valley. It is a wonderful day trip featuring incredible scenery as well as unique Buddhist spirituality. Travel by private car with your knowledgeable guide for a truly amazing journey.

What you'll see and do
Namo Buddha (Stupa)
Set off on one of Nepal's most profound spiritual journeys. This guided tour takes you to Namo Buddha, one of the three most sacred Buddhist pilgrimage sites in the Kathmandu Valley. This is a "must-see" destination, revered as the very place where a young prince (a past life of Lord Buddha) performed the ultimate act of compassion, sacrificing himself to a starving tigress and her cubs. Your guide will share this powerful legend as you explore the magnificent Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery. Marvel at its colorful Tibetan murals, spinning prayer wheels, and the serene energy of monks in prayer. The journey is part of the adventure! Enjoy a scenic drive from Kathmandu, passing the giant Kailashnath Mahadev (Shiva) statue and the charming Newari town of Dhulikhel. From the monastery, soak in breathtaking panoramic views of the snow-capped Himalayas. This is an unforgettable day of peace, legend, and mountain beauty.

Experiencing Monks in prayer - fabulous
My wonderful guide Shanti recommended this trip and it did not disappoint. We visited a monestry and sat through the monks giving prayer which was a wonderful experience. Shanti taught me so much about the different gods and took me to visit the most wonderful statues. If you’re visiting Nepal, ask for Shanti as your guide. She is warm, funny and the best guide in Nepal

Wonderful
I spent two days wirh this company and really appreciated the care that Pankaj took with my itinerary to make sure that I got an experience that fit my requirements. We went to see Namo Buddha the first day and spent the second day sight-seeing around Kathmandu. Namo Buddha is amazing place, you have to include ir in tour trip! The company also provided an excellent vegan lunch, and Pankaj helped me.with some speciality shopping. I will definately recommend this company and Pankaj and his fellow guide Niraj and the driver Hari. Was an enjoyable outing!

Why this scores 62
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private Day Tour - Sacred Journey to Namo Buddha: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kathmandu.
How much does Private Day Tour - Sacred Journey to Namo Buddha cost?
+
Prices start at $60 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kathmandu usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Day Tour - Sacred Journey to Namo Buddha take?
+
Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kathmandu is not rushed.
Is Private Day Tour - Sacred Journey to Namo Buddha worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 62 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Kathmandu, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Day Tour - Sacred Journey to Namo Buddha?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private Day Tour - Sacred Journey to Namo Buddha suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 3. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 5-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Private Day Tour - Sacred Journey to Namo Buddha?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kathmandu can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kathmandu and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Day Tour - Sacred Journey to Namo Buddha start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kathmandu within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Kathmandu?
+
On Outty we rank every Kathmandu experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Private Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour | UNESCO World Heritage sites, Classic Everest Base Camp Trek, Manaslu Circuit Trek. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Kathmandu?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Kathmandu?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
