About this experience

Embarking on a journey 110 kilometers southwest of Ulaanbaatar, we visit Khustain Nuruu, a conservation area dedicated to preserving and safeguarding Mongolia's wild horses, known as takhi or Przewalski's horses. Recognized by the world's biology foundation, the takhi faced extinction in the wild. However, through collaborative efforts with international environmental agencies from 1992 to 2004, successful reintroduction programs were implemented at Khustain National Park, ensuring the revival of the Takhi population. The financial contribution from tourism 100% is used for nature conservation. That means anyone who paid to receive the eco-tourism service (a tour company, tour guides, and travellers) can participate the nature conservation. In addition to witnessing the iconic Takhi and diverse wildlife populations, you will enjoy Winter wonderland in Mongolia and winter of the Mongolian nomadic life

Great experience

They contacted us before the tour to confirm our pickup arrangements, which made the whole experience smooth and worry-free. Our skillful driver handled the challenging road conditions in Hustai National Park with great expertise. The tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and shared not only fascinating information about the wild horses but also the history of Ulaanbaatar and its buildings as we drove through the city. After the "safari," we enjoyed lunch in the ger of an authentic nomadic family. They were very warm and welcoming. Fortunately, our tour took place during the Naadam Festival. Although it wasn't included in the original itinerary, the guide kindly took us to experience part of the festival, which was a wonderful surprise. Thanks to their professionalism, kindness, and extensive knowledge, I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Mongolia.

A rich experience!!

We had a fantastic day with our guide Tugu- he was kind, enthusiastic, well-organized, and very informative. I especially appreciate his passion for his country, which inspired us to share thoughts on many topics about Mongolia! The flow of the day also went smoothly, including one of the most delicious and authentic Mongolian meals cooked just for us by a herder’s family. We are seriously considering to come back for a much longer trip with Tugu in the future!

Response from the operator: Dear Solungga, Thank you so much for your wonderful and thoughtful review. We are truly delighted to hear that your trip to Mongolia became such a memorable and enjoyable experience. Wishing you a beautiful journeys ahead. All the bests, Team

Good experience

Zaya spoke good English. The driver was nice too. They stopped for bathroom break whenever we needed. Tour was easy, driving around Hustai park and stopping when there’s horses and animals. The lunch with nomad family was a nice authentic experience as well. Things to keep in mind - 2 hr drive each way, you’re not going to go super close to the horses (because they will run away if you’re too close), and lunch is at a very local nomadic ger so if you’re not used to that you should bring a snack.

Response from the operator: Dear Randy, Thank you to you and your family for choosing us as your travel provider. We truly appreciate your kind review and your support. We wish you all the best and many more wonderful trips in the future. Warm regards, Team

What a great day!

This is something I don’t think I would be able to do on my own! The views on the drive were breathtaking and I learned so much thanks to my guide. I was lucky yesterday to see two whole groups of wild horses and a herd of wild deer. Though I got my shoes thoroughly soaked (my fault) my guide made sure I was ok and was very considerate of how I might be feeling. The trip to the nomadic family’s home was such a unique experience. They were kind and hospitable and even let me borrow some shoes as mine were drying near the stove! The meal the host made was so filling and delicious and they really made sure I was enjoying myself. I really really am thankful for this experience, and I can’t recommend it enough to other travelers. Thank you!!

Response from the operator: Dear Hannah, Thank you so much for your thoughtful review. It was a pleasure to be part of your journey through Mongolia. We wish you many more wonderful adventures in the future. Best regards, Meet Mongolia Team

Private Day Tour in Hustai Nuruu National Park: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Ulaanbaatar.

How much does Private Day Tour in Hustai Nuruu National Park cost?

+

Prices start at $100 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Ulaanbaatar usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Day Tour in Hustai Nuruu National Park take?

+

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Ulaanbaatar is not rushed.

Is Private Day Tour in Hustai Nuruu National Park worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 25 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Ulaanbaatar, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Day Tour in Hustai Nuruu National Park?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Day Tour in Hustai Nuruu National Park suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Day Tour in Hustai Nuruu National Park?

+

Around 9 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Ulaanbaatar can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Ulaanbaatar and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Day Tour in Hustai Nuruu National Park start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Ulaanbaatar within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Ulaanbaatar?

+

On Outty we rank every Ulaanbaatar experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Genghis Khan Statue+Terelj Park+CamelRide+Eagle, A day trip to Terelj National Park and Statue of Chinggis Khan, BEST 5* Chinggis Khaan Airport UBN Ulaanbaatar Transfer Taxi 24/7. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Ulaanbaatar?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Ulaanbaatar?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
