After such an incredible experience with Tantum Travels on our private tour to Chichén Itzá earlier this month, booking another tour with them was an easy decision. Once again, they exceeded every expectation. Our guide, Limbert, picked us up promptly at 7:30 a.m. and immediately made us feel like VIPs. One of the biggest advantages of a private tour is flexibility, and Limbert used his knowledge perfectly. We were among the first visitors inside the Tulum Archaeological Zone, allowing us to experience one of Mexico's most iconic sites before the crowds and heat arrived. He knew exactly where to take us for the best views, the best photos, and even managed to keep us in the shade whenever possible—something we greatly appreciated because it was already hot by 8:00 a.m. On the drive to the Coba Archaeological Zone, Limbert shared the fascinating history of the Maya and the region, so by the time we arrived we already understood what we were about to see. Instead of spending time listening to a long history lesson under the hot sun, we were able to focus on the ruins themselves and ask questions along the way. We highly recommend renting the bicycles at Coba, and Limbert took care of everything for us. The ride through the jungle was enjoyable, and it allowed us to reach Nohoch Mul, the tallest pyramid on the Yucatán Peninsula, before the larger crowds arrived. Climbing to the top definitely gets your heart pumping, but the panoramic views over the jungle are absolutely worth the effort. On the leisurely ride back, we stopped at several additional structures while Limbert explained their significance and history. Lunch was another highlight. Instead of taking us to a tourist restaurant, we enjoyed an authentic meal at a traditional Mayan home, which gave us another opportunity to experience the local culture. The day ended with an unforgettable snorkeling experience through the Sac Actun cave system, the second-longest underwater cave system in the world. Equipped with snorkel gear, wetsuits, and underwater flashlights, we floated through crystal-clear water surrounded by incredible limestone formations that have been slowly created over thousands of years as mineral-rich water deposited layers of calcite from the cave ceiling and floor. One of the most memorable stops was an area known as Pet Cemetery, named after ancient fossilized animal remains discovered there, offering a fascinating glimpse into the region's distant past. Throughout the entire day, Limbert made us feel safe, comfortable, and never rushed. Every part of the tour was personalized to our interests, and his passion for the history, archaeology, and natural beauty of the Yucatán Peninsula was obvious. If you're visiting the Cancun, Playa del Carmen, or Tulum area and want to experience these incredible sites without crowded buses, rushed schedules, or tourist traps, we cannot recommend Tantum Travels highly enough. Two private tours with them with two different guides have now become two of the highlights of our time in Mexico, and we wouldn't hesitate to book with them again.
