Just Book Captain Jack!
if you are evening thinking about this, BOOK IT! Captain Jack is an absolute star. Pick up was easy. Drop off right at the cruise ship. His boat is perfect. We didn't utilize the accessibility options but he really did think of everything. He guides us through breathtaking scenery, pointed out eagles, and hit areas with great salmon activity. We enjoyed talking with him. We have a 6 and 13 year old; he made them feel very welcome and included. Seriously - just book it.
Response from the operator: Thank you kindly! You folks were wonderful to fish with—and cheers to your kids for being such great sports even during the lulls in activity. It was a pleasure to have you on board...enjoy those salmon when you get home!

Captain Jack is the Best!
Captain Jack is outstanding! His knowledge of the area and waters is first rate. He slowed on our way out for us to see a whale up close and then offered us a choice of fishing styles. We stuck with trolling for salmon and had a lot of bites, eventually landing 2 beautiful silvers (Coho). He made me and my kids feel right at home and gave us an experience that we will treasure.
Response from the operator: Thanks, Craig! My salute to you and your kids for being so patient when fish got away...you kept with it, and those silvers were humdingers! It was a pleasure to have you on board. I'd be happy to see you back any time.

The best fishing charter and captain in Ketchikan!!!!
Captain Jack was amazing! I cannot tell you how much we enjoyed this fishing excursion. Captain Jack is just simply a lovely man. Wehad so much fun with him. We left around 6:45 AM and because of calm, water conditions and weather we were able to go up about 10 miles from Ketchikan to a quiet Cove where we got blessed with amazing fishing! We caught our limit of pink salmon in less than two hours! It was some of the most fun fishing I’ve ever experienced. The fish were biting so often that both poles kept getting hits at the same time! We absolutely loved his boat. There was plenty of space inside. The entire boat was developed to be accessible to those who have mobility issues. For us we were blessed with amazing weather so the outdoor area was plentiful. We just loved our time we spent with Captain Jack! If you ever find yourself in Ketchikan, Alaska, and you are looking for the perfect fishing charter then don’t look any further than Fishability and Captain Jack! You will have the time of your life!
Response from the operator: I knew out of the gate that you folks were going to have a great time...your enthusiasm shone through. and I'm so glad the weather and the fishing matched your attitude! It was a delightful day, indeed. Thanks so much for making my job so easy. I love what I do, and it's that much more of a pleasure when the people on board are as excited to see this place as I am to show it off. Cheers!

The very best fishing experience in Ketchikan!!!!
WOW! We had such an amazing day with Captain Jack. It’s hard to put into words how much fun we had. Jack is a wonderful person with a great personality. He is warm, friendly and very knowledgeable. His boat was clean, accessible with plenty of space inside in case of inclement weather. He had plenty of gear as well. We started our day bright and early and drove up about 9-10 miles to a cove that was teeming with fish. They were everywhere, jumping out of the water! Within a few minutes we had hooked our first big, juicy Pino Salmon and within about 2 hours we had caught our limit. To say we enjoyed ourselves is a serious understatement. It was one of those memories that we will cherish forever. After several hours with Captain Jack we felt a bit sad to leave him. He is one of those people that you are so happy to have met. If you or your family find yourself in Ketchikan, Alaska then I would without a doubt book Captain Jack at Fishability. You may not be guaranteed to catch fish but you’ll be in wonderful company with someone who will do his very best to help you create as perfect memories as he did for us. Do not hesitate and BOOK your trip with him for memories of a lifetime!!!!
Response from the operator: Thanks, Chris! It was a great morning. We lucked out on the weather and it’s always exciting when the fish are in thick and biting steadily—but it was really your enthusiasm that made the day. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the questions and curiosity you two had about life in Ketchikan…I love being a booster for my hometown. So glad to have had the pleasure of fishing with you! Enjoy the salmon, and I hope to see you back one day.

Great time. Jack was great
Jack and the boat were great. Jack was super helpful and would promptly email be back with any questions I had. We chose to bottom fish and caught a few halibut, a handful of cod, and rock fish, skate fish, and arrow tooth fish. We got to see a bunch of different types of fish and were kept busy. Would def book again.
Response from the operator: Thanks, Jeffrey! You guys were great to have on board—and it’s always nice when the action is steady. I’d be happy to see you back anytime!

Why this scores 64
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private Alaska Salmon Fishing—Up to 6 Guests, Priced by Group: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Ketchikan.
How much does Private Alaska Salmon Fishing—Up to 6 Guests, Priced by Group cost?
+
Prices start at $700 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Ketchikan usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Alaska Salmon Fishing—Up to 6 Guests, Priced by Group take?
+
Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Ketchikan is not rushed.
Is Private Alaska Salmon Fishing—Up to 6 Guests, Priced by Group worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 16 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Ketchikan, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Alaska Salmon Fishing—Up to 6 Guests, Priced by Group?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private Alaska Salmon Fishing—Up to 6 Guests, Priced by Group suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private Alaska Salmon Fishing—Up to 6 Guests, Priced by Group?
+
Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Ketchikan can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Ketchikan and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Alaska Salmon Fishing—Up to 6 Guests, Priced by Group start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Ketchikan within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Ketchikan?
+
Ketchikan runs short, cruise-timed excursions: Misty Fjords floatplane flights, Tongass rainforest zip lines, totem park tours, crab feasts and wildlife boats up the Behm Canal. On Outty we rank every Ketchikan experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Ketchikan Kayak Eco-Tour, Off the Beaten Path Ketchikan Photo Safari - 3 hr., Ketchikan Shore Excursion: Rainforest Canopy Ropes and Zipline Adventure Park. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Ketchikan?
+
May to September, matching the Alaska cruise season. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Ketchikan?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
