About this experience
Desert Highlights is Moab's original canyoneering guide service. This full day canyoneering tour visits a route that Desert Highlights' founder created as a technical guided canyoneering route in the late 1990's. Here, we explore an area that most people would not visit on their own. With the use of ropes and other technical gear, a competent guide and a sense of adventure, we are able to explore areas that are otherwise inaccessible. The Moab desert is our home and we are passionate about sharing it with others. During your guided tour, you will not only safely descend a beautiful, water-carved canyon, but you will learn about the flora and fauna, geology and history of the area that we are so lucky to call our backyard.

Zigzag Canyoneering Tour gets a thumbs up and double kudos
My daughter and I really enjoyed the Zigzag canyoneering tour with our fabulous guide Joe on April 16, 2026. Joe was extremely helpful in explaining various movements in the technical climbing portion of the hike. He also gave very detailed instructions for the rappelling portions and was extremely safety conscious. This was my 5th canyoneering tour with Desert Highlights and I am so satisfied with the quality of the tours and guides I’ve decided it’s the only company in Moab that I’ll use for future tours! When we returned to the office after Zigzag Kai reminded me that I had done Zigzag with my son in April 2018. I had totally forgotten that I had done this tour previously. I didn’t mind doing it again with my daughter and it rekindled fond memories of when I had done it 8 years ago with my son!
Response from the operator: Hey Larry, Thanks for the great review and for your continued business! We are very happy to have Joe as a part of our team, he has an amazing attention to detail and is excellent at coaching people through either their first trip or their fifth trip. We can't wait to see you and your family on the next trip. -Jake

Adventure of a Lifetime
My family, including husband and teenaged son, had a thrilling canyoneering experience with Kele through Zig Zag Canyon. We had never canyoneered before but had lots of experience hiking and some rock climbing - while this was helpful, it was much more important to be willing and physically fit participants. First, Kele is just a cool, chill but highly competent dude. He led the three of us perfectly - fun but calm and always safe. Second, the landscape and scenery just cannot be overhyped. Third, canyoneering is such an incredible combination of outdoor experiences that challenge and reward you, whether hiking to the summit, shimmying through a canyon, or rapelling 220 feet! Desert Highlights has near exclusive access to this canyon along with some others that offer different experiences, so it was very special bo enjoy quiet serenity in such a vast place. This was definitely the winning highlight of a trip that featured many - highly recommend, especially if you feel like you have "been there, done that!"
Response from the operator: Hey Kiesha, Thank you for taking time to write about your experience with us, it means a lot! We're glad that we got to host you for two trips, it was nice getting to know you a little bit in the shop. Thanks again! -Kai

Our family has run 4 different canyons over 3 years with Desert Highlights and will definitely go out with them again the next time we are in town. The guides here are the best. Get out with them. You will have a great time.
Response from the operator: Thank you Rich! We're honored that you choose to spend some time with us on each of your trips to Moab. See you for the next canyoneering adventure!

Canyoneering Zig Zag
Did a family 3/4 day canyoneering excursion with Jake and Skyler. Was nearly 7 hours. Have three boys 12, 12, and 15. They absolutely loved it. The younger boys were a bit anxious going into it but quickly realized they were capable. Largely thanks to our two awesome guides. They were extremely knowledgeable, professional and patient. They made a challenging adventure an absolute pleasure and a lifetime memory. Highest recommendation for anyone considering this. And yes it does involve a 225 foot rappel as the highlight of the tour. You will not be disappointed.
Response from the operator: Hey Brad, Thanks for taking the time to write us a review. Jake and Skyeler had a great day out with you, and mentioned how cool it was to see how excited the boys were about the day overall! Hope to see you out all out here again down the road!

Why this scores 72
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private 3/4 Day Canyoneering Tour in Moab: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Moab.
How much does Private 3/4 Day Canyoneering Tour in Moab cost?
+
Prices start at $310 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Moab usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private 3/4 Day Canyoneering Tour in Moab take?
+
Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Moab is not rushed.
Is Private 3/4 Day Canyoneering Tour in Moab worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 72 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 35 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Moab, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private 3/4 Day Canyoneering Tour in Moab?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private 3/4 Day Canyoneering Tour in Moab suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private 3/4 Day Canyoneering Tour in Moab?
+
Around 12 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Moab can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Moab and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private 3/4 Day Canyoneering Tour in Moab start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Moab within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Moab?
+
Moab is the gateway to Arches and Canyonlands: sunrise arch tours, 4x4 runs on Hell's Revenge, Colorado River rafting, canyoneering and dark-sky stargazing. Park entry timing systems change often, so we weight tours that handle reservations for you. On Outty we rank every Moab experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include HIGHLY RATED U-DRIVE Moab Hell’s Revenge UTV Off-Road Adventure, BEST! Hell's Revenge U-Drive 4X4 Tour in Moab +Dinosaur Tracks!, 5-STAR Moab Hell's Revenge UTV U-DRIVE TOUR + DINO TRACKS. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Moab?
+
April to May and September to October, avoiding peak summer heat. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Moab?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
