    About this experience

The experience is super relaxed, we start by sitting down and tasting a little bit of Portugal, while I give a brief explanation of what we're going to cook. Cooking while hungry is a bad policy. When we're ready, we put on our aprons and start the teamwork, under my guidance. Some of the ingredients are from my backyard, and I'll take you to see what they are... As we prepare the food, I'll tell some stories about the origins of the ingredients to be used. In the end, we set the table and sat down to savor all the dishes we've prepared. IMPORTANT: If you have any food allergies or follow a specific diet (vegetarian, paleo, vegan, etc ...) let me know as soon as possible so we can prepare in advance all the ingredients needed.

A Must Do While Visiting Lisbon

It was an incredible experience from start to finish. Being welcomed into Katija’s beautiful home made the evening feel so personal and special. She was a wonderful host, and her knowledge of Portuguese culture made every course even more meaningful. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared, and the wine pairings were excellent. I would absolutely recommend this experience to anyone visiting Lisbon. It was a true highlight of my trip and an experience I’ll never forget.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your beautiful review! 💛 Your kind words truly mean the world to me. It was an absolute pleasure to welcome you into my home and share an evening of Portuguese food, wine, culture and conversation. I'm so happy to know that you enjoyed not only the dishes and wine pairings, but also the stories and traditions behind them. Creating a personal and meaningful experience around the table is exactly what I hope every guest takes away. Thank you for your heartfelt recommendation. Knowing that this was one of the highlights of your trip to Lisbon is the greatest compliment I could receive. I hope our paths cross again one day. You'll always be welcome back at my table. ✨🇵🇹 💛

    Would absolutely do it again!

I had a wonderful time at Katija’s cooking class in a charming village near Lisbon. We learned how to make a delicious traditional feijoada and an amazing dessert, all while discovering more about Portuguese food, culture, and local ingredients. What made this experience truly special was Katija herself. She created such a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere that it felt less like a cooking class and more like spending time with friends. The instructions were easy to follow, the food was fantastic, and the whole experience felt very authentic. The best part? After we finished cooking and eating, we stayed for hours chatting, sharing stories, and enjoying each other’s company. Those conversations were just as memorable as the food itself. If you’re looking for a genuine local experience, great food, and wonderful company, I can highly recommend Katija’s cooking class. It was one of the highlights of my time in Portugal.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for this beautiful review 💛 It makes me incredibly happy to know that the experience felt authentic, relaxed, and welcoming. For me, cooking is only part of the story — the real magic happens when people gather around the table, share their experiences, and connect with one another ✨ I loved spending the afternoon with you, preparing the feijoada together, talking about Portuguese food and culture, and discovering that the conversations continued long after the meal was finished 😊 Those moments of laughter, storytelling, and genuine connection are exactly what I hope guests take away from their time here. Thank you for your warmth, curiosity, and wonderful company. Knowing that this was one of the highlights of your time in Portugal means more than you can imagine. You will always be welcome back at my table 💫💛

Portuguese flavors in a typical village home: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Lisbon.

How much does Portuguese flavors in a typical village home cost?

    +

Prices start at $40 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Lisbon usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Portuguese flavors in a typical village home take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Lisbon is not rushed.

Is Portuguese flavors in a typical village home worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 44 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Lisbon, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Portuguese flavors in a typical village home?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Portuguese flavors in a typical village home suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Portuguese flavors in a typical village home?

    +

Around 15 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Lisbon can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Lisbon and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Portuguese flavors in a typical village home start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Lisbon within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Lisbon?

    +

On Outty we rank every Lisbon experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Lisbon City Center Tour - The Unmissable Lisbon, Sintra Private Trip from Lisbon Customizable Dreamlike Experience, True 4Hour Private Tuk Tuk Tour: Discover Lisbon with a Local!. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Lisbon?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Lisbon?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
