What you get

    About this experience

Transport yourself back to Roman times on a small-group guided tour of Pompeii led by an archeologist. Explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site for two hours with the help of your expert guide who will take you around the city preserved by volcanic ash from Mount Vesuvius’ eruption in AD 79. Start by skipping the line when you enter the city at Porta Marina Superiore, one of the ancient city’s seven gates. Walk the main streets and wander around the Forum, the old heart of the city and the center of public life. From here you can see Mount Vesuvius overlooking the city. Discover constructions such as the Basilica, Thermal Baths, Temples and Great Theater of Pompeii. Even peek at plaster casts of people who were in the city at the time of the eruption. See artworks, mosaics and frescoes in various places that are well-maintained and will take you back nearly 2000 years. Highlights include the House of the Vetti and the Lupanar Brothel - see its preserved stone beds and frescoes.

The company lied to us for what we paid for and what we got

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. THEY LIE AND GIVE FALSE INFORMATION & TAKE YOUR MONEY..I booked a Collosseum Tour via my hotel and the meeting point was at this place, Colosseum meeting point Touristation Aracoeli. We got there bit early whilst we were waiting, we saw an advertisement for Pompeii tours day trips. We enquired about this, we would like to book this tour. We were told it’s a 7.30am couch trip to the Pompeii site, we would get there about 10.30am and we would have a whole day at Pompeii. We were told we would spend around 6 hours at Pompeii. On the day of the trip we arrived on time boarded the coach, while the coach was travelling the rep told us we would be going to and Lemon factory and onto Sorrento stopping there for a break. We got to Sorrento at 12.15pm and left at 1.15pm we got to Pompeii at 1.45pm and the tour started at 2.35pm. The tour guide rushed us the Pompeii ruins, we hardly got to see it properly. The tour guide took us back to the couch meeting point at 4.10pm. We were highly disappointed and I feel we were robbed of our money and expectations. The trip lasted at 1 hour 35 minutes at Pompeii, which cost €300 (£256) even a different rep at the meeting point before boarding the coach told us we would be going straight to Pompeii and get 6 hours there. I spoke to other customers who were on this coach they were highly disappointed also and were given false information.

    TOO crowded!

Pompeii advertises ticket limits of 20,000 per day. The Viator tour we booked was listed as "Skip the Line". BUT, we stood in line for about 20 minutes with the other tour groups which already had tickets. That was just the beginning of TOO many people in TOO little space. Our guide did her best to move us along and accommodate the older, slower participants. After 1.5 hours, we finally dropped out, along with another five younger participants on the tour. The walking was difficult, too hot, and too many other people to bump into. I cannot recommend this activity for senior citizens. (We are both 74 years old.) There was also massive confusion about how to get on the bus to go back to Naples. We were told to meet at the "Meeting Place" for the bus. We did that, but there was no one there from the tour company. We finally got on the correct bus after someone got a megaphone and shouted my name!

    Pompei by foot.

Our guide was very knowledgeable of the site. Highlighted many areas from the frescos to the bake ovens and even the water sisters. Great explanations and answered questions.

    Terrible experience!

We ended up missing the tour because we could not find the meeting point. We used the address given for it in the voucher and it was an abandoned building! We tried calling but no one picked up from the tour company.

Total waste of money and time.

Worst tour we had on our trip. Guide was awfull. Snapped at me for asking questions, didn’t show us anything important. Unbelievable! We toured none of the houses, we saw no frescoes. Didn’t visit the theatre or amphitheatre. He had no interesting anecdotes or stories. Basically lectured us for 1 hour about the correct Latin pronunciation of the rain water collection system. We had to walk ourselves after the tour to see anything important. Avoid this company like the plague.

Pompeii: Skip-the-line-Ticket with Guided Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Pompeii.

How much does Pompeii: Skip-the-line-Ticket with Guided Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $64 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Pompeii usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Pompeii: Skip-the-line-Ticket with Guided Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Pompeii is not rushed.

Is Pompeii: Skip-the-line-Ticket with Guided Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 47 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.8/5 across 13 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Pompeii, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Pompeii: Skip-the-line-Ticket with Guided Tour?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Pompeii: Skip-the-line-Ticket with Guided Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Pompeii: Skip-the-line-Ticket with Guided Tour?

    +

Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Pompeii can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Pompeii and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Pompeii: Skip-the-line-Ticket with Guided Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Pompeii within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Pompeii?

    +

On Outty we rank every Pompeii experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Premium Minivan Trip from Rome: Pompeii Tour & Lunch in Sorrento, Skip the Line Guided Tour of Pompeii Led by an Archaeologist, Explore Pompeii with an Archaeologist. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Pompeii?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Pompeii?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
