Great Tour of Herculaneum and Pompeii
Fantastic small group tour of both Herculaneum and Pompeii with lunch in Naples in between. A true archaeologist (I think Vincente) gave informative descriptions and made it a fun day, even though it was a long and very hot day in the heart of summer. FYI an umbrella is much better than a hat.

Michele is fantastic!
Michele was an amazing guide. Very attentive, knowledgeable and patient. It was extremely hot and seeing both sites the same day was a lot-he stuck to the highlights and made sure we saw the most famous points of each place. Highly recommend!

This was a great step...
This was a great step back in time. Our tour guide Vincenzo clearly knew what he was doing and did a great job explaining the details of what we saw. I would recommend this tour to anyone. He gave our group plenty of time to take pictures, use the facilities, refill water, and ask questions. A few things to note: it is impossible to see every room, road, building, fresco, etc… at either location in just one day let alone seeing both sites in one day (we had no complaints, just clarifying). Lunch- we were dropped off at a shopping center and food court very similar to a typical mall in the US with a good range of options. Train- our morning train was very light and we had most of the car to ourselves. For the trip back to Rome we were back with plenty of time to walk the station and grab a bite if we wanted; it was very packed so keep an eye out for your track number and head down early.

I highly recommend this...
I highly recommend this tour if you’re looking for ease of travel and planning. The tour takes care of the fast train tickets to Naples, a van pick up in Naples, travel to and from Pompeii and Herculaneum, and the train tickets home!! Both sites absolutely blew my mind!! I honestly had no idea how well preserved the buildings are!! Our tour guide was excellent- incredibly knowledgeable and funny. He had a way of keep us on time that made us feel like we weren’t being too rushed. My only suggestion for travelers and the company is to make it clear that the tour ends 3 hours before the train back to Rome. (At least, ours did.) The train station where we were dropped off didn’t look very enticing to explore, especially after hours in the heat at the 2 sites. We spent a little more to change our tickets to an hour earlier. Bring water, portable fans, hat, and/or umbrella if you go when it’s hot!

Amazing Tour of Pompei!! :)
This tour was amazing! Our tour guide was so knowledgeable of Pompeii and Herculea, and was so incredibly considerate. That particular day, it was hotter than usual and our guide provided an umbrella to me so I wouldn't burn. That was so kind of him. The history we were shown, the ancient ruins, the stories and grounds was just amazing! I know I'll remember this for the rest of my life. One thing, and I think it's mentioned on many of the tour package details: These ancient ruins are not easy to navigate with small children, strollers (in the hot Italian sun), or for elderly who have a hard time breathing. I did see some people with their little kids and some elderly with walkers attempting this and they looked absolutely exhausted (desperately seeking shade). Wait til the kids are older so they'll really soak history up! It's worth it.

Why this scores 80
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Pompeii & Herculaneum Guided Tour - High Speed Train from Rome: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Naples.
How much does Pompeii & Herculaneum Guided Tour - High Speed Train from Rome cost?
+
Prices start at $169 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Naples usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Pompeii & Herculaneum Guided Tour - High Speed Train from Rome take?
+
Plan for about 11.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Naples is not rushed.
Is Pompeii & Herculaneum Guided Tour - High Speed Train from Rome worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 80 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 120 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Naples, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Pompeii & Herculaneum Guided Tour - High Speed Train from Rome?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Pompeii & Herculaneum Guided Tour - High Speed Train from Rome suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 11.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Pompeii & Herculaneum Guided Tour - High Speed Train from Rome?
+
Around 42 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Naples can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Naples and add a light layer if any part of the 11.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Pompeii & Herculaneum Guided Tour - High Speed Train from Rome start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Naples within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Naples?
+
On Outty we rank every Naples experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Full Day Private Amalfi Coast Tour from Sorrento/Naples/Salerno, Caserta Royal Palace & Gardens Small Group Tour with Shuttle, Naples Pizza and Tiramisu Cooking Class. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Naples?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Naples?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
