What you get

    About this experience

This 2-hour classic tour will give travelers the chance to discover the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, buried by the ashes of Mount Vesuvius in the 79 AD eruption. The guide specialized in archaeology shows the best highlights like the Forum – the main square of the city – the main houses and buildings, and also the plaster casts – the dead bodies of the Pompeiians emerged by the excavations. Pompeii has been inscribed in the World Heritage Patrimony from the UNESCO Committee since it gives a clear picture of the Roman society and daily life at a specific moment in the past, nothing else similar exists in the world. A 2-hour guided tour with an Archaeologist will help understand what life was like during the Roman Empire and give the feeling that tourists have time travelled to that specific moment.

Look no further, this one is good!

A very good introduction to the city of Pompeii. Sergio was very pleasant, perfect tempo in the heat and full of knowledge. Recommend this tour without doubt!

    Great tour

Our guide Michele was wonderful. It was great to have personal ear pieces so we could hear him clearly. He made great stops and I feel like we learned a lot and he was extremely knowledgeable. We were very pleased with the experience.

    Don’t use this company

Our guide Alessandro was terrible. We were a group of nine and he spoke so softly that nobody could hear him. He gave very very little information. He would just walk us from one place to another, which we could’ve done ourselves very easily. Nobody learned anything from this guide. On top of that, we had somebody in a wheelchair in our group, and he was absolutely no help and did not use accessible routes. Complete waste of money!

Great experience led by an expert

I wish to share a positive review for the tour that we took with Alessandra. I visited with my wife and two kids. Twenty years ago my wife and I had visited Pompeii (without a guide) but I think that we learned FAR more in this visit. I appreciated the chance to ask questions off Alessandra and that the group was not too large (about 10) , making it possible to do so. It was a great experience and i would recommend it to others.

Equipment was poor - couldn’t hear

The guide was okay, but the equipment was very poor so we couldn’t hear what she was saying. For the earphones to work, you need to be sitting 5 feet and we were 15 people so naturally couldn’t all be nearby. Otherwise, we just heard beeping. Our group decided to not use headphones, couldn’t hear, so just looked around. Many others had the same issue but there wasn’t anything the guide could do to fix it besides saying “come close”. We paid a lot for the tour to have it go to waste.

Pompeii 2-hour Private Tour with an Archaeologist-Ticket included: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Pompeii.

How much does Pompeii 2-hour Private Tour with an Archaeologist-Ticket included cost?

    +

Prices start at $216 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Pompeii usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Pompeii 2-hour Private Tour with an Archaeologist-Ticket included take?

    +

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Pompeii is not rushed.

Is Pompeii 2-hour Private Tour with an Archaeologist-Ticket included worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 75 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 210 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Pompeii, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Pompeii 2-hour Private Tour with an Archaeologist-Ticket included?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Pompeii 2-hour Private Tour with an Archaeologist-Ticket included suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Pompeii 2-hour Private Tour with an Archaeologist-Ticket included?

    +

Around 74 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Pompeii can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Pompeii and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Pompeii 2-hour Private Tour with an Archaeologist-Ticket included start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Pompeii within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Pompeii?

    +

On Outty we rank every Pompeii experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Skip the Line Guided Tour of Pompeii Led by an Archaeologist, Premium Minivan Trip from Rome: Pompeii Tour & Lunch in Sorrento, Explore Pompeii with an Archaeologist. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Pompeii?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Pompeii?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
